Work Text:
"Is it weird I'm older than you?" Johnnie questioned after a moment. Carrington shook his head slightly and placed a gentle kiss to the back of Johnnies neck. "No," he murmured, "I don't think so. I don't have a problem with it, at least." Johnnie nodded, turning around to face Carrington. "Just checking."
Carringtons face always had a smile. He was so beautiful, Johnnie thought, he was the most beautiful thing on earth. Johnnie could write a million poems, paint a thousand pictures, compare a hundred things to how stunning Carrington was, and nothing would come close. He was in love with every feature. Every freckle, scar, dent. Any imperfections Carrington thought he maybe had, Johnnie loved. He loved endlessly.
Johnnie could picture growing old with Carrington. With a dog and a cat. Somewhere far from the city, far from the noise. Maybe they could go East. Where they could live quiet mornings forever. Live on a big farm and have small get-togethers with Tara and Jake and whoever Carrington wanted to invite. Johnnie wanted a future like that. He wanted to live to see that happen.
"Johnnie?"
"Hm?" Johnnie blinked out of his thoughts. It was easy to get lost in Carringtons features. Johnnie would've again if Carrington hadn't been trying to talk to him. "I asked if you're alright?" Carrington moved a piece of Johnnies hair away from his face. "You went quiet."
Johnnie softly smiled. "Sorry, was thinkin' 'bout you." Carrington was so kind to Johnnie. Always encouraging him to do new things and praising him. It made Johnnie feel loved in a way he hadn't experienced before.
"Corny," Carrington remarked. He rested his hand on Johnnies cheek. Johnnie shivered. Carringtons hands were cool and Johnnies face was warm. It was nice. Johnnie lived for small moments like these. Quiet mornings, where nothing seemed to matter but each other. He shuffled to move his hand to rest it on top of Carringtons.
"I love you," he sighed out in a whisper. Carrington smiled. "I love you too."
Though he didn't need to hear it, Johnnie loved hearing those words float from Carringtons mouth.
