Colby woke up slowly with a groan, flipping over to lay on his other side. His hand swept the bedside next to him as if feeling for something. The bed, empty, was a cool temperature compared to the heat of the blanket Colby was laid under. He sighed and flicked his eyes open. Pushing up from his hands to his elbows, Colby sat up against the headboard and reached for his phone. The charger dropped off somewhere on the floor and when the phone flickered to life, he noticed how late it was.
It was 2:17am. It was odd for him to wake up just randomly throughout the night, but now that he was sat up he doubted he'd be able to fall back asleep. He sighed once more and placed his phone down on the nightstand. Colby pulled the black blankets off his legs and shuffled to sit at the edge of the bed. Knowingly, he stood up and pulled the covers back more before exiting the room.
He lightly padded around the house. Everything was quiet and despite the summer heat, it was nicely cool. The moon was Colby's only source of light. He could only pray he didn't stub his toe on anything. He moved past the kitchen and down into a hall where there was a half open door with light pouring out. Colby walked further down the hall and peaked his head through the cracked door, smiling gently.
"Sam?" He could've been mistaken for a mouse for how quiet he was. Sam jumped, pushing back from his desk. "Damnit— jesus, Colby!" Sam exclaimed, holding a hand above his racing heart. "I didn't think I'd scare you," Colby grinned and walked further into the room, "what're you doing awake?"
Sam shrugged, looking back at the computer screen. It was opened to their editing software with a video clipped up. Ah. Colby held a stern look. "Sam," "Listen—" "You were editing all last night too!"
Colby moved to Sams chair, (gently) pushing the chair away from the desk. "Hey! Colby!" Sam whined in defeat as he watched as Colby saved his progress and shut the computer down. "I was making seriously good progress, if you give me another hour or... three- I'd be done." He groaned, leaning back in the chair. Colby turned around and wagged a finger at Sam.
"What?" Sam snorted in shock. Colby shrugged, "I just woke up. My actions are excused." Sam smiled and shook his head. "Yeah, alright."
"C'mon, we're going to bed. It's cold without you." Colby moved to grab Sam by his forearms, pulling him out of the chair. "Shouldn't that be a good thing? It's been hot." Sam raised a brow. He went half limp in an attempt to fall back in the chair. "Sam," Colby groaned and tightened his grip on the other, "don't make me carry you! I'm tired."
Sam shrugged, though barely due to Colby, and stared silently at him. Colby shook Sam slightly and stared back. They stared at each other for a few more seconds before Sam sighed. Colby laughed in victory and pulled Sam further up, pretend dusting his shoulders off afterward. "I hate you," Sam mumbled with no truth behind his words. Colby grinned and walked out the room, making sure Sam was following. "Gosh, it is cold." Sam shuddered as they walked back toward the bedroom.
Once they reached the bedroom, Colby made sure to close the door gently. He watched as Sam face planted the bed and groaned loudly. "You need to take breaks more often," Colby commented, walking toward the bed. Sam shuffled to his side and Colby pulled the large blanket over the two of them. "I know," Sam sighed, "I just get really into it and don't wanna stop."
Colby nodded. "That's okay, I get it." He smiled softly at Sam. He felt thankful to have such a beautiful soul in his life. "Let's go to bed now though, yeah? Have an off day tomorrow."
Sam sighed and tugged the blanket further to his chest. "'Kay," he whispered out, eyes already shutting, "love you."
"Love you too," Colby replied. He wasn't sure if he'd be able to sleep again, but he was glad Sam was next to him.
