Summary:

red team have a private discussion when they realise you and scout were acting kind of...strange.

Work Text:

You and Scout never officially announced your relationship. Not that because you thought or worried that there would be issues, it just simply never came to mind. And this is exactly why the RED team were meeting up in secret when you and Scout had decided to disappear together once again.
"What if they're spies?!" Soldier slammed his fist against the table, looking at the weirdly stalker-ish photos that were strewn about, thanks to Spy's slyness.
"Does zat mean I can experiment on zem?" Medic inquired, his expression morbidly brightening and making everyone recoil in mild disgust, but no one was surprised by his question. Spy grumbled, dismissing the possibility before anyone else could fixate on the idea.
"Spies? Those imbeciles are hardly capable," He scoffed, a cigarette hanging in-between his lips. "And they wouldn't make it so painfully obvious, or maybe zey would." The rest of the team began looking at the various photographs. They were all taken since the day you and Scout got together, so it was over the course of a week roughly. All of them were in different places, but it had the same common theme: Scout was grinning like an idiot, and you looked far more content than usual with each one. If you weren't staring at each other, you were both likely touching each other in some way. It was discreet, but not exactly unnoticeable.

"Maybe they're just...uh..." Heavy trailed off as he thought of some possibility. "Maybe they're just..." Sniper rolled his eyes, stepping closer to the table and the rest of the team.
"Do we really need to care so much?" Sniper sighed, chewing on a toothpick. His question was quickly discarded as everyone else nodded. Everyone tried making some sort of theory towards what was going on, overlapping into arguments into what was right. Some were rational and assumed you were close friends or were dating and just simply never announced it, but Soldier was still set on the idea that both of you were spies. Sniper didn't care much about it, and Medic just wanted more experiment subjects. Spy was getting aggravated, the room was dissolving into one of chaos as everyone argued. Pyro just sat there, although was actually intently listening, feeling curious himself. He gave a few noises here and there.

"Are they still in there?" You chuckled as you heard the noise in the room getting louder, shaking your head after you lifted it from Scout's chest to look at the closed door. You were both snuggling with each other on the rec room couch after you came back from another date not too far from the base, trying to figure out what this secret meeting was about.
"Seems like it, doll," Scout groaned, already getting impatient by the secrecy. "Why ain't we allowed to know? We're part of the team too!" You shrugged, squishing your cheek against his chest as you laid back down, his arms firmly holding your waist and pressing your bodies against one another.

"Hmm...what do you think it's about, Scouts?" You began to trace your finger against his chest, feeling his heartbeat quicken once he felt you slowly drag your hand against his clothed skin. Scout hummed with his cheeks flushing pink, a colour that was not uncommon whenever he was around you. You had such an effect on him, but to a degree you still didn't fully realise. Just you looking at him alone was enough for his knees to go weak.
"Dunno. I want in there, it ain't fair for us to not know!" He grumbled, a visible pout on his lips.

It then crossed your mind that it was a possibility that the team was talking about you and Scout, but you didn't bring it up. Scout could be a massive worrier, and you didn't want to make him nervous and assume that the team was plotting against the pair of you. But you didn't think it was plots against you two, for two reasons. One, because why would they be against you and Scout? And two, because it was far more likely for them to be talking about your relationship with Scout. It was more than evident that there was a change, mainly through how Scout was acting now. He was still that boisterous and big ego guy that you had fallen for, but he wasn’t really the same. He seemed happier, and he wasn’t bothering the other mercenaries as much, because you gave him the attention he wanted and needed. You gave him the time out of your day, you willingly wanted to spend time and hang out with him. It wasn’t that Scout was necessarily neglected, he did have some good relationships with others on the team, but he didn’t have that person. The person who he would be best friends with, the absolute closest with. And now that he had you, he felt full. He felt like every missing piece was fulfilled.

Not only was he spending much more time with you, he seemed more…gentle. He was still loud, but there were points where he’d speak more softly, or he wouldn’t yell as much. It was like you awakened a more tender Scout, which was something no one, not even you, was accustomed to; and it further raised the team’s suspicions. Especially when he came out of your room with a stupid and wide toothy grin, and would seem to be lost in a happy daze that he couldn’t get out of.
"Boy, what's up with ya?" Engineer would ask, placing his hand on Scout's shoulder. He felt alarmed by the realisation that he was all hazy from being with you again, yet he still couldn't escape it.
"Nothin', Engie!" He was still absolutely lost in you and it was obvious, but Engineer let it go...for now.

And obviously, the two of you seemed to be a bit more…physical. It was mainly discreet and wasn’t too far off from how you would hug each other as best friends, but the hugs would seem to linger more than they usually did, or his fingers seemed to brush against the back of your hand more. Sometimes Spy would pick up on how Scout would trace slow, languid shapes absentmindedly on the back of your hand, which was a habit Spy had himself when he was with Scout’s mother. Or, just with any other partner he had. Father like son, just that Scout isn’t going to be absent. Not this time. If you and Scout were to ever have children, he’d vow not to ever leave you and be like his father, not when he’s already so lovesick. His eyes sparkle like glitter when he sees you.

So, after considering how Scout had obviously changed and the two of you seemed to be going beyond just close friends, it was more than likely that the team were talking about your relationship. But as you thought about it more, a worry that they wouldn’t accept the relationship began to gnaw its way into your mind. What if they couldn’t accept a relationship on the battlefields, that it could affect things? Then again, it wasn’t affecting much. Sure, you and Scout could get distracted by each other but it wasn’t as bad as before. But what if they were still uncertain about it? There’s likely never been a romantic relationship between the mercenaries before, at least not one like this. This was all pretty much new to everyone, which only poured more gasoline onto the burning anxiety you had. You didn’t want to break up with Scout if it had somehow led to that.
However, as soon as you brought yourself back to reality and caught Scout’s doting gaze, the worry washed away. Even if the team were to be uncertain about this relationship, you knew and felt like it would all work out okay, at least in some way. It was clearly making the two of you happier, and it even improved performance (mainly from the motive of cuddling with one another after you were done with battle). So maybe it wouldn’t be as bad as you thought.

“That’s enough!” Engineer firmly yet softly interjected, making the arguments from the team settle down. He sighed as he took another glimpse from the strange number of photos Spy had taken of you and Scout, before glancing back at everyone. “They are clearly datin’ one another, and that’s all fine.” They all exchanged glances, an oddly comical sight as they all began to realise it. Yet, Soldier still insisted that you and Scout were spies.
”There’s no love here! Those maggots are spie-”
”No, no. Engineer is right,” Medic began. “Scout has not been coming to me for medical advice. He haz been going to her. I have been…abandoned.” He frowned, quite dramatically, but he did miss Scout’s hurt ego whenever he got really frustrated at rather trivial wounds.
“Aye, the lad’s proper lovesick!” Demo called. “Drunk in love!”

“We shall see for ourselves, gentlemen.” Spy slowly opened the door, urging everyone to be quiet as he peeked through the open crack. He noticed Scout’s head laying on the armrest on the couch, so he assumed he was alone. Perhaps he could drag him in for some unnecessary interrogation. He ushered the other mercenaries out of the room, neither you or Scout batting an eye at this. Yet, they all stopped in their tracks as the two of you began to speak to each other, not even noticing their presence.
“Nah, you’re the cute one here! C’mon, believe me, doll.” Scout urged, cupping your cheeks while he tried lifting your face up to be level with his. You then - unintentionally - showed yourself as your face aligned with Scout’s, your body pressed against his. Yeah. You were most definitely dating.
“Please, please, please! Your eyes literally brighten when you see me, how is that not the epitome of adorable?” You pouted, pressing feathery kisses against his cheek. Scout chuckled at how it tickled, his face heating up as your lips began to travel down his jaw, then to his neck…

“I ‘ave seen enough of zis.” Spy grumbled, storming back into the room. Your head shot up, Scout’s turning to see all 8 (now 7 because Spy retreated) mercs staring right back at you. Sniper and Demo weren’t too surprised, Soldier was flabbergasted, Heavy and Engineer found it quite sweet and Pyro was just silently watching. Medic still frowned from how Scout no longer went to him for injuries, but secretly found the sight quite endearing. Young love.
“Uh…hey fellas.” Scout sheepishly and nervously chuckled, his eyes darting back and forth between you and the rest of the RED team. They slowly retreated back into the room, not before Engineer flashed a fond smile at both of you and Pyro making a garbled noise of approval. In his eyes, you and Scout were probably some fairy tale-esque couple. Now back in silence, you and Scout stared at each other before bursting into a little fit of giggles.

”Did-Did ya see Soldier’s face?” He laughed, his hands firmly holding onto your waist. He was so adorable when he laughed, you could smother him with kisses.
“Poor Medic was pouting, I think he caught on that you prefer me now. I’m not even a Medic, Scouts!” You giggled, falling back onto his chest, which heaved up and down with each laugh that fell from those kissable lips. You laughed at the reactions for a while longer, poking fun at how Spy grumpily left, going back to simply peacefully snuggling with each other.
“So, I’m pretty sure that the so called ‘secret meeting’ was about us.” You huffed, going up to nuzzle your head into the curve of his neck.
“Yer prolly right, toots. Guess it’s official ta everyone now, huh? Surprised they haven’t caught on earlier,” Scout yawned, his hand lightly patting on your upper back. “Suppose that means I can be extra affection with ya then. Make all of ‘em jealous.” He grinned. You snickered in response, feeling him squeeze you tighter against him.

“Yep! Just don’t go too crazy with the PDA, okay? I don’t wanna get backstabbed by a BLU Spy or sniped in the process of kissing you on the battlefield, or something.” He laughed heartily, playfully groaning.

“I’ll try ta contain myself. But no promises!”
