Work Text:

Like any other average teenage boy, Hiro struggles with expressing his feelings. His genius brain does not make him different at all when it comes to that. So he would never admit that Tadashi's first week of college was incredibly rough for him.

The first day was fine, Hiro was excited to have the room they had shared for years finally to himself. He was able to play music at night without it being too loud for Tadashi to complain about it and he was able to lounge around on the computer until the early hours of dawn without being chewed out for not getting enough sleep at night.

The second day was great for Hiro too, letting soda cans and food plates pile up without Tadashi getting onto him about not letting "roaches take over their living space." Hiro never really thought that'd be a serious issue. It was just a few plates and cans, after all.

By the third day, it was just... too quiet. Hiro realized just how many conversations he and his big brother shared when occupying the space. He would throw out some comment about the latest news of an inventor they both looked up to and frowned when there was no response. He would then sigh when he remembered he wouldn't be getting a response until the weekend because that is when Tadashi would return. Of course, he could always just give him a text or call, but that'd be embarrassing. Hiro just knows Tadashi would make some offhand comment about him missing him and Hiro would just want to melt away and die (because it'd be true.)

When the third day turned into night, Hiro didn't even bother to play his music. He just remained curled up on his bed, his phone resting on his open palm as he waited for any sort of notification. He started to wonder why Tadashi wasn't texting HIM in the first place. Had he made friends already? Did he miss Hiro at all? Did he even think about Hiro? Hiro merely sighed and put his phone on the nightstand.

His phone vibrated.

Hiro instantly sat up and deflated when he saw it was just a news alert. He turned it face down and pulled his sheets over back over his body, dreaming of nothing to remember.

Aunt Cass woke Hiro up on the fourth day with a tug of his blinds and the entry of the burning rays of sunlight pouring upon Hiro's half-conscious face.

"Wakey wakey," she beams, "I need you to come to the store with me."

Hiro groans and tries to cover his stinging eyes with his arm. He replies in a raspy voice, "Why?"

"Cuz, silly, first of all, you need out of this house," she rips his warm, comforting sheets off of his body, "And second of all, I need your opinion on what we should make to celebrate Tadashi's first week of college!"

Hiro lets out another sleepy whine, "Wings," he replies half-assed, and pulls the sheets back over his body.

Aunt Cass only tugs them off again, this time pulling them to the ground, "Great choice! Get some shoes on, we're leaving in 5."

Hiro stares at the ceiling with a pout. He couldn't argue with that.

At least the chatter with Aunt Cass and the responsibility of pushing the buggy occupied his mind most of the day. When he got home though, his brain only got meaner. Tadashi still hadn't texted him and Hiro felt abandoned. Of course, Hiro wasn't going to text Tadashi! That's like saying he won! And Hiro is way too childish to let Tadashi win so easily. But while he can't admit it out loud, he can say for certain that he really missed Tadashi.

He couldn't sleep that night.

Before he knew it the light was leaking in from the blinds and burning his eyes..It was finally Friday. Tadashi was going to be coming home after his final class ended. But Hiro was exhausted and his bed was no longer comfortable.

So he decided the next best course of action was to gather his bundle of sheets and shuffle across the room. He plops face first into the clean sheets of Tadashi's unused bed. The scent of linen and Tadashi filled his nose. He inhaled deeper.

But it wasn't enough.

He groans miserably and sits up. He looks around the room and eyes the cologne sitting idly on the shelf.

This is pathetic. And he knows it.

So he merely sighed at his desperation and reached 3/4ths off the bed. He nearly fell but he was able to grasp the cologne before gravity won. He shuffled back onto the sheets with the black glass bottle to his chest. The scent had already found its way to Hiro's nostrils before he even sprayed it.

He continued to cradle it and lays back on the pillow. He feels something beneath it. He sits up and pulls out one of Tadashi's hoodies. Why he kept it under his pillow was beyond Hiro, but this worked out perfectly. He sprayed the hoodie with the cologne and set it aside on the nightstand.

This would be MUCH more comfortable to cuddle up with. He balls up the hoodie and curls around it. He sniffed it again and he felt his body relax a little more. He is reminded of his all-nighter by the sting of his eyes. He sighs into the soft fabric and feels himself drift away to a dreamless sleep.

“Hiro!” Tadashi calls out as he jogs up the stairs, “Hiro, get up you little couch potato— Huh?” He turned as he reached the top of the stairs and noticed his brother's bed was stripped and empty. He hums of confusion and gazes over at his section of the room.

Hiro was snuggled up in a pile of blankets. In his arms was no doubt Tadashi's old hoodie. He laughed softly and sits at the edge of his bed.

“Oh you little dork,” Tadashi mutters to himself fondly. He reaches over and brushed some hair out of the sleeping boy's face.

The older Hamada smiles and then drops most of his weight atop of the younger one. Hiro gasps as soon as he feels his arms snake around his waist.

“T-Tadashi!” He exclaims. He turns around, touching his burning nose to his brother's. He flashes an awkward gap-toothed smile,  “You're home!”

“I am,” Tadashi grins, “And you're in my bed.“

“...I am,” Hiro says slowly, “But it just... seemed comfier. And cleaner.”

Tadashi doesn't reply,  only smiling at Hiro knowingly.

“What?” Hiro flushes a deeper shade of red, “Why are you just looking at me like that?”

“Did my hoodie seem comfier and cleaner too?” Tadashi lifts the clothing item that now resided behind Hiro's back.

Hiro does not provide a response for that. He averts his gaze. Tadashi lets out a soft laugh and pulls Hiro's head towards his chest, “C'mere you little knucklehead,” his arms are tight around Hiro's waist.

Hiro inhales his scent. It's so much better than the hoodie. He tries to pull away, “Ta-da-shi!!” he whines,  pressing his hands against his older brother's chest.

Tadashi only laughs, “What? You missed me, right? Come on, show your big brother some love!”

“You're so weird!“ Hiro groans. In truth, he'd love to be more affectionate, but it was embarrassing enough to be caught in his bed and cuddled up with his hoodie. And he was a teen boy. He couldn't show that he was such a big softie for his older brother! He's too old for that.

Tadashi pulls away for a moment and smiled down at Hiro, who now has stopped struggling and has lifted his gaze up. He stares at the older Hamada with flushed cheeks and furrowed brows. Tadashi could tell Hiro wasn't actually mad.

“You're being weird,” Hiro repeats, “Why are you cuddling me anyway?”

“You're so cute, Hiro,” Tadashi cooed and nuzzled his face into the boy's messy hair, “Gah, I've missed you so much. It was so lonely in that dorm without you.”

Hiro rolls his eyes, “You didn't miss me! You didn't even text me!”

“I know, I know, I'm sorry. I got so caught up with all the homework and first projects I couldn't find anything interesting to text you about,” The older brother sighs and his lips fall into a playful smirk, “How can you ever forgive me?”

Hiro knees Tadashi in the leg, earning a slightly pained grunt from him.

“You could've at least told me goodnight, you jerk!”

“I didn't know you wanted me to! I just didn't wanna bore you. But now knowing you missed me this much too? I feel so bad that I didn't. I didn't realize that you were such a needy little dork,” he teases, scooping Hiro up into his arms once again.

“Ugh!” Hiro thrashes against Tadashi's hold, “Stop picking me up!!”

“I can't help it. You're adorable. I need you in my arms,” Tadashi plants dozens of kisses upon Hiro's head and face. “Muah! Muah! Muah! My sweet little brother!!” He rubs his face against Hiro's chubby and tinted red cheeks.

“Stoppp!!” he whines, completely embarrassed. He stops fighting as much and accepts his fate, limply laying against Tadashi's chest.

The older Hamada then grabs both of Hiro's flushed cheeks into his hands, holding his face gently. He gazes at Hiro with a gaze filled with an emotion that Hiro hadn't seen before.

With squished cheeks, Hiro raises a brow, “What are you doi—?”

Tadashi presses his lips against Hiro's.

Hiro gasps and squeaks.

Tadashi pulls away just as fast as the kiss had happened and snickered, “You need chapstick, badly, baby brother.”

“W-wha?!” Hiro squeals. His entire face had gone red now. He and Tadashi had NEVER kissed on the lips before. Not only that, he just stole Hiro's first kiss! [And Hiro admittedly really liked that fact.] But he knew it wasn't... normal for brothers to do that. “Why— why did you—?”

“I just couldn't help myself. I've missed you so much, Hiro!” Tadashi grunts as he squeezes Hiro to his chest extra tight. He kisses more on his head, “Gah, you little fuzzball! I can just keep you against me forever!”

Hiro only whines as he gets kissed-attacked. He falls limp again, knowing this is a useless fight. Even then, he didn't really want to get away from Tadashi, so he wasn't going to give his all anyway. But positioned against Tadashi's toned, warm chest like this, the older brother could not see the small, pleasant smile that adorned his baby brother's face.

Yeah. He was glad Tadashi was home.
