White hot pain seared through Yellow’s forehead as his vision was completely overtaken by white. Light, feathery wings sprouted from his back as the glasses perched on his nose fell down.
The air became heavy, as the lights of the PC dimmed.
The glowing orb on his forehead sent throbs of pain throughout his whole body, and he wasn’t himself .
He flew around, cackling madly at this newfound power, while Green, Red, Blue and Orange stared at him with fear, backing away. In an instant, Yellow swiped the Lucky Block Staff towards Green, Blue and Orange and soon they were met with the same fate as him.
Red’s eyes were glossy with unshed tears as he saw what his friends had become. What Yellow had done to them.
What Yellow had done to himself.
Yellow had gone too far.
They were going to leave him, he hurt them, he hurt himself, he wasn’t their friend, they hate him, he should be better off rotting away, dead.
-
“Have you guys seen Yellow? I was wondering if we could hold another building competition.” Green asked. Red’s head was on his lap, the younger’s legs on Blue’s. They were all nestled comfortably on the couch the friend group shared. Green scrolled mindlessly on his phone, Orange busy having another animating session with Alan.
“I don’t know. He hasn’t been out of his room since morning. It’s-” Blue leaned over to check the time on Green’s phone. “-almost 1:00 p.m.”
Red piped up, worry and concern etched on his face. “Should we go check?” He clutched his shirt, lips pressed into a thin line. Green narrowed his eyes, and then shrugged.
“Might as well.” He then abruptly got off the couch, resulting in Red falling off, angry whines spewing out of the redhead’s mouth. Green snickered, leaving an annoyed Red and a very exasperated Blue behind.
-
Yellow woke up with a gasp, tears trickling down his face as he clutched at his hair. His glasses lay in the bedside table next to him, so he shoved that on and focused on his breathing.
1, 2, 3
1, 2, 3
He counted in his head, his finger moving up and down. His chest ached, his throat felt uncomfortably tight, he just wanted the pain to stop-
“Hey, Yellow? Are you there?” \
A voice was heard from the other side of the door, and Yellow recognized it as Green’s voice.
Green was here, Green wasn’t scared of him, Green wouldn’t leave him just because he wasn’t as fun as the rest, Green was loyal, Green loved him and so did the others-
“Green?” He said with a small voice, hesitantly raising his voice so that Green didn’t know that he had just been crying.
“Yeah, it’s me- are you okay ?”
Dammit.
“Yeah…”
“...” Green didn’t say anything.
Yellow let out a sob he didn’t know he had.
As soon as the noise escaped his parched mouth, Green had kicked the door open(Yellow had to suppress a glare)and was at his side, crawling into the engineer’s bed, muttering reassurances , holding him close to his chest and stroking his hair with such tenderness he didn’t want him to stop .
Soft sounds escaped Green’s mouth, and it didn’t take long for Yellow to realize that Green was singing a lullaby.
Yellow felt his tears build up again, as soon he was a sobbing mess, clutching at Green’s shirt as tight as he could, afraid to let him go away, even though he knew Green wouldn’t leave him.
He looked so pathetic right now. This wasn't proper at all.
After a few minutes of Yellow’s crying, it had subsided to simple sniffles. Green rocked him slowly.
“Nightmare? You haven’t been out of your room for so long. You’re usually the first person to get up.” Green asked softly, careful not to sound too loud.
Yellow gulped, and nodded. “I…yeah, you’re right. It was a nightmare. Not too scary though, I don’t understand why I’m crying.” He bitterly chuckled. Green frowned. “Wanna talk about it?”
He murmured gently. “O-Okay…” Yellow relented.
“It was the…Lucky Block Incident…” Yellow gulped, his breathing quickening. “I..hurt all of you, and Red w-was the only person that wasn’t possessed by the thing…but.. I hurt you guys. ” He shakily whispered.
“I know, I’m supposed to get over this, it happened a long time ago, but….part of me still thinks..”
Yellow brought a hand under his glasses, raising them slightly to wipe his tears, and fixed them.
“A part of me still thinks that because I experiment with stuff, I might do something really dangerous and hurt all of you again , and that you’ll leave me, and that’s scary, I don’t want you-dammit I don’t want you leaving I’m sorry, I’msorryI’msorry-”
“Yellow! Hey, hey, shh…It’s okay..” Green interjected, bringing Yellow’s hand to his chest.
“Follow my breathing. In and out, in and out.” Yellow nodded, focusing on how Green’s chest rose and fell with such ease, while he felt as if slime was coating it. It felt so heavy.
“Yellow, we don’t leave you. You’re one of the smartest people I know, and you’re our friend.” Green murmured. “ Maybe sometimes it’s kinda annoying, but just ‘cuz it’s annoying we won’t leave you. We’re not that petty.” Yellow chuckled at that.
“Yeah…you’re right..” Yellow sniffed. Soon after they broke apart, Green was still close by.
“I…I think I want to go back to the others. No point in moping around anymore.” Yellow muttered. Green just hummed, taking his hand and walking out the door.
The brightness blinded his eyes, as he brought a hand to shield his eyes. He put it down, and was met with the smiling faces of his friends. Orange now back, waving his hand slightly.
“Yay! We can have the contest now!” Red cheered, flapping his arms around. Blue gently shushed him.
Green let go of Yellow’s hand and joined the others, but Yellow didn’t shift from the warmth leaving his palms.
He felt warm.
-
“And the winner is….Yellow!” Orange announced. Green groaned, but they all knew it wasn’t of ill-intent. Blue cheered Yellow, and Red hugged him as tight as he could. Green approached him and shook his hand, trying to seem nonchalant. “Good job.” He stiffly said, but there could be a warmth in his eyes.
In fact, the warmth could be seen in everyone’s eyes, quite unlike the cold, scared look in them in Yellow’s nightmares.
As Yellow was handed the trophy, he gazed at the gold exterior, swiping a thumb over the object.
He let a small smile linger on his face.
“Yellow, you’re our friend and we won’t leave you.”
“Yeah, we’re not THAT petty. Besides, who’s gonna be the nerd in the group?”
“Green! That’s not nice!”
“Haah? Red, waddaya mean?!”
“I’m too tired for this, I’m going back to bed.”
“You guys…”
They all laughed, tears pricking Yellow’s eyes as he smiled.
Warm.
