Chell gently nudged the door to Aperture Science's underground testing facility. The door creaked, and swung in.
It had been maybe 3 years since she had last been in that building. She shuddered, remembering all the suffering that horrid AI had put her through. That "testing" had nearly killed her multiple times, so it was only fair she return the favor. She was going into the labs, not to kill GLaDOS, but to befriend her.
She carefully stepped in, and slowly, step by step, walked deeper into the hallway. The door slammed shut behind her, and she jumped.
"Hello? Is anyone there-?!" A familiar synthesized voice rung out. "Chell, I told you not to return!"
Chell chuckled to herself and kept walking, pausing when she saw the laser emmited by a turret. Why didn't she go around the other way and get a portal gun? Oh, right, because then she'd be noticed right away. As much as she hated to admit it, she had to do this without the gun.
She peeked around the corner and the turret started firing. A bullet grazed her cheek, and she stumbled back, blood dripping onto the floor. She got up quickly, scampering out of view of the turret, until she realized that it hadn't shot at her while she was in plain view.
A robotic arm reached down from the ceiling, pulling the turret out of sight.
"Chell, I have missiles prepped in multiple areas. Turn back or perish by my own hand." GLaDOS's voice seemed tame, like she honestly didn't want to have to kill her, as opposed to the last time they had spoken, when GLaDOS constantly had a teasing tone in her voice. Well, Chell never directly spoke to GLaDOS, she refused to give any robot the pleasure of hearing her speak.
But there's a first time for everything, right?
"I will not leave until we can talk. In private." Chell thought it seemed weird, hearing her voice for the first time in years. Even GLaDOS made an audible noise of confusion.
"Chell are you ok? You just spoke?!"
Chell walked from the entrance into GLaDOS's room. "Well this is important..."
Chell really didn't want to have to do this, but a murderous robot couldn't stay alive forever. Even if GLaDOS was the last sentient being other than her on the planet, she had to...
She pointed a missile launcher at GLaDOS, hands shaking. She closed her eyes, not wanting to watch as she killed her only companion, tears streaming down her face.
"D-don't hate me..."
Chell opened her eyes a bit, to aim before she fired, and nearly broke down. GLaDOS looked down at her, seemingly content.
"What?! N-no, you were supposed to sass me! Call me an orphan, or fat, or an idiot... not just watch as I kill you!" Chell couldn't take it anymore. She set the gun down, and sobbed.
"Chell. While I am not equipped to deal with human emotion, might I recommend some cake?"
Chell stared at GLaDOS. "You really expect me to trust the one who tried to kill me multiple times?"
"Well, only twice... the rest of the times were for science." An automatic tray rolled out from a secret panel in the wall. On the tray was a chocolate cake, with fresh cherries and whipped cream.
Chell, although she didn't trust GLaDOS in the slightest, got up, slowly walking towards the cake. As she walked, she pondered her time with GLaDOS. She also planned escapes in case it was a trick. If it was neurotoxins again, just tear her apart with missiles and toss them in the fire.
By the time she got to the cake, she realized GLaDOS hadn't moved or done anything.
Huh, maybe she ISN'T planning anything... Chell though, slicing the cake and eating a bit. It tasted delicious compared to the wild fruits and meat she had been eating since she left the facility. She swallowed, and smiled a bit.
"Huh, guess you really DID decide to change, Gladdy"
If GLaDOS could blush, she probably would have. "Did you just give me a nickname?" She looked confused.
"What, never had anyone call you that? To be fair, you DID kill everyone with a neurotoxin you flooded into the facility." Chell snickered.
GLaDOS sighed. "Shut up, I'm on the verge of stuffing you in a testing chamber again and watching you just for the fun of it." She sat in silence, still processing what Chell had done.
"Aww, Gladdy is upset? Well-" Chell started to cough. "Neurotoxins? Again? You need a better attack, that's so unoriginal!" Chell laughed.
GLaDOS looked at her, cold glare back. "No. Just gas. Knock you out safely for... transport."
Chell's vision went dark, and her head hit the ground.
