Work Text:
Combing through Cassidy’s tangled hair proved incredibly hard, her curls and coils intermingled so intricately that he was surprised it didn’t all rip off with just one tug of the makeshift comb he held.
Although it was hard, he couldn’t say he wasn’t enjoying himself.
The process of doing the girl’s hair reminded him of times when he was still alive.
He smiled at the memories; he only learned because Elizabeth hated going to dressers, and since she was often too busy to be there for Evan when he was dealing with Micheal all alone in the Afton household, she decided to give her little brother a hobby out of doing hair! that way she’d cut time being out of the house, keep Evan away from Micheal and his pent-up teenage anger, and spend time with her youngest sibling all at once.
It worked wonders for the boy, he found himself smiling more often, and even better was If he did a really good job with her hair she’d bring him to go get ice cream and show off her new hairdo to all her friends while they were out! “ My little brother did my hair this time! Isn’t it nice?” Was what she often said, turning her head around at different angles and or playing with strands while asking. He’d always receive compliments and praise on how well Elizabeth’s hair came out and how kind it was for him to do that.
It filled him with happiness and gave him something to look forward to, it made him appreciate his sister even more too as she looked out for him.
And then when he met Cassidy, and they became close, he decided to try out his skills with her hair. At first, the girl was apprehensive at the thought of him doing her hair, but she decided she could just playfully punch him out and make him do favors for her until they turned 80 as revenge.
They never made it to 80 anyways.
To her own surprise, he actually did really well on Cassidy’s hair. Phenomenally, even. Originally she had all her hair down simply out and going to the floor, it was a bit messy, but it suited her, but now she had two full shoulder-length pigtails on her sides.
It took her aback with how nice they looked, turning her head she saw how the back of her head had multiple wraps of her hair which all stemmed from the part in her head.
“Woooow” she gasped, her hand traveling to her mouth in awe.
“It’s n-nice i-isn’t it?” He smugly smiled, expecting praise, hell almost demanding it. He wanted it to come out of her mouth. All because she was a sore loser whenever they played games, no matter the game. if he managed to best her his point would be invalidated simply because. He didn’t really mind, since he knew she was simply teasing him, but it did always make him both curious and eager to see if she’d ever slip up and admit he managed to blow her socks off.
“I think this part’s….like…really uneven, Ev…” Cassidy nervously said, breaking Evan away from his prideful stupor with the sound of glass shattering echoing in his head.
“W-wha…”
He hadn’t made a mistake like that in what felt like years, he clumsily palmed her smooth face, worriedly inspecting her bangs all over. He couldn’t see any errors, but maybe his eyes weren’t working well?
“Relax Ev, I was only playing!” The brash girl exclaimed, prying his delicate hands away from her flushed face.
With a frustrated grunt, the boy put his hands back on her face, pinching at her cheeks. “Lemmego!” the girl laughed, “No!” He huffed, pinching her cheeks until they were a lovely red.
The memory fades away into white, the sounds of the kids they used to be fading away along with it. He brings himself to reality, Cassidy sitting criss-cross in front of him with her back to him, humming away a sweet melody while he went through the process of detangling her unkempt hair.
“ C-Cassie, have you taken care of your h-hair a-at all since everything happened? ” The boy asked, his displeased voice telling the girl that her hair situation was in was unacceptable.
“ Well if I remember correctly, the person who usually did my hair died . ” The girl curtly responded, sarcasm oozing out of her mouth.
“ H-hey! D-Don’t b-blame me! T-That w-wasn’t my fault. ” The boy laughed, multitasking talking and gently uncurling the girl’s black locks.
He watched as the girl turned her head, her expression mixed with anger and guilt.
“ I- “
He cut her off before she could even speak.
“ Cassie, W-What have I told you. ”
With a huff the girl droned out the sentence Evan’s hammered into her head from the moment they reunited, “ It’s not anything for me to feel guilty about… ”
“ A-And I mean it! ”
With a chuckle the girl turned her head back around, leaning back into the boy’s body before whispering a thank you. It was a light whisper, but Evan managed to hear it. It brought a smile to his face knowing that she still had moments devoid of feeling apathy and malice.
The pair sat in silent tranquility. Cassidy stopped her humming as she grew bored of straining her vocal cords, meanwhile Evan focused on unraveling the last few locks of her hair.
The girl had no clue what she’d do If Evan wasn’t here with her. She drowned in despair when it was just her alive, but being alone and trapped as a ghost would’ve been simply torture, something she just couldn’t handle. With a light exhale she inwardly thanked the boy for his presence, not saying it aloud (because it’s too embarrassing) so that he could keep focused. She discreetly opened one eye, keeping It slanted to sneak a small peek at his face. His smile was bright, his small nose poked out while he rocked his head side to side. She gushed at the sight, stifling a giggle to keep him in the dark about her inspecting.
Until…her eyes caught the crimson coloring that lined his face.
Her eyes traced the red to their source, the soaked bandages.
Even more blood…
She grimaced in disgust at the sight, the messy bandages covering one of his beautiful eyes and his tragic bite marks. She wondered what it was like for him to see with only one eye, it’s not even what would be his good eye. The poor boy has to remove the bandages every time Cassidy needs assistance with Fredbear. Even worse he then writhes in pain from the stress, palming his eye as if he was trying to keep it from falling out. She’d say that’s her main reason for trying to do all the things all alone, but unsurprisingly he never lets her.
She felt her frustration flare up, anger at his biological father and brother flooding through her veins and the rest of her female body.
She felt lust for a certain desire.
Vengeance
Revenge was her only wish.
She wouldn’t allow herself to be put to rest before she got her retribution .
“ A-Are y-you okay? ”
She awoke from her monologuing to see his worried expression, she forgot that they could feel each other’s strong emotions on a small scale since when together, they make up one soul.
“I’m fine.”
”S-So then what are you t-thinking about?”
“ Nothing in particular ,” she said while raising a hand to the left side of his face. Her fingers brushed over the damp bandages, her resolve strengthening while feeling the fabric. “ Just thinking about our revenge. ” She smirked.
“ C-c’mon, y-you know Charlie doesn’t want us to d-do that. ”
“ Hmph…she’s entitled to think that way I guess, I just think it would be better for everyone if we just killed everyone. ”
“ W-well m-maybe so, b-but h-how about we try to stay peaceful this time? Not killing e-every guy who comes in h-here might be better f-for their souls. ” He bargained.
“ I’ll….give it some thought if that’s how you feel. besides, we’ve already gone rather light with the killing… ” she smugly mentioned, as if not murdering people was something deserving of praise.
“ T-thank you. ” He smiled, pulling at the girl’s cheek while she rested her head on his chest.
“ N-no problem. ”
She caught ear of his hushed chuckling, her face reddening even further from the idea of him finding her flushed face comedic .
Before she could tell the adorable boy off for laughing at her, he spoke up, holding handfuls of her now more organized hair.
“W- What s-should we do t-today Madame Cassidy? ” He asked with an admittedly horrible French impression.
“ For someone who’s European, that accent sucks. ” She sniggered, taking her turn to laugh while the boy stared back at her unamused.
“ H-hey! I- I j-just haven’t d-done it in a while! S-stop laughing it’s n-not funny! ”
“ Sorry, Ev ” she giggled, “ And you can decide, just make me look nice. ” She said before closing her eyes and sinking into the contact.
‘you always look nice.’ ….If only he had the confidence to actually say it instead of imagine it.
It was incredibly relaxing to feel him prod away at her hair, it was like getting a small massage for her noggin, and before she knew it she fell asleep while he worked, a small tune humming away close to her ears acting as a soothing lullaby.
He laughed to himself once he heard her delicate snores, she was in a light sleep, but he still didn’t want to wake her regardless, She pulled all-nighters too often while keeping watch for new workers or squatters, she deserved a moment where she could just let down her guard and rest.
He wondered what it’s like to be in her shoes.
She nominated herself to take control of the situation while Charlie sealed herself away from everyone’s sight.
Originally he thought she only did so because she was focused on revenge, but it surprised him when she was more often occupied checking on the rest of the ghosts who line the halls, speaking to them with care and a sense of familiarity that reminded him of his own family.
He never got the chance to meet the children lying in rest in the suits before he passed away, but it brings a smile to his face whenever Cassidy talks about them or checks on them. She’s one of the most caring people he knows.
It makes him happy that even thought he’a dead, he could be dead and stuck with her.
With a smile, he slowly and methodically manipulated her hair in different patterns and directions. he figured since it was 3 pm and everyone else was too busy dreaming away to cause distractions he could be bold and give Cassidy nice French braid pigtails. Her hair was certainly long enough after all the work in detangling it!
He worked passionately, fighting off his own exhaustion so that he could get the job done well.
….
After what felt like ages, the boy finally finished. His hands sore from all the weaving, but he thought it was worth it when he gazed upon the finished result!
She looked stunning with her hair done this way! It only cost him waking the poor girl once or twice to shift her to a better position, but it was simply perfect! The way the braids fell into full curls of loose hanging hair, and the way the style allowed her to keep some of her messy bangs away from her face made it all the better.
Ecstatic with pride the boy nudged the girl awake, rocking away at her knee and shoulder with an ear-to-ear smile.
The girl groggily woke back up, blinking rapidly to try and adjust her eyesight. (unknowingly surprised at how much more she could see without her bangs hanging overhead.)
“ Done? ” She groaned.
“ Mhm! ” He nodded, taking her hand and leading her out of the Golden Freddy suit.
Their translucent bodies danced and mingled atop the crowds of rowdy children to whom they were invisible. they floated high above the giddy children to the closest mirror. A normal person would never see an entity’s reflection through a mirror, as they didn’t exist on the same plane field, but a ghost could see their own reflection crystal clear, and Cassidy was beyond enamored with what she was looking at.
“ Ev…This looks great… ” she complimented, her voice breathy as she was still star-struck.
He only replied with a smile and nod she could see through the mirror, the girl barely even had time to reform her strong emotional wall, deciding to leave it broken as she quickly embraced her ghastly partner, giving him a small peck on the nose as she gleefully laughed.
“ Thanks, Ev! I don’t know what I’d do without you. ”
The boy could only respond in laughs as he sunk into Cassidy’s affection, his body melting from the touch as she tightly hugged him.
“ C-C’mon w-we should go back to Fredbear b-before something h-happens. ” He whispered, not yet pulling away from the hug.
When the boy was met with silence he wondered if he was too quiet, he looked up at the girl’s eyes to see her focused on the young children playing around in the party room, her eyes looking longingly at their carefree smiles, their cheeks being clear of any gray murky apparition tears. Something they did not share in common.
The boy looked toward the party room as well, nostalgia filling his body as he reminisced on the times he and Cassidy would play so gleefully.
With a swallow and tug, he begun
pulling her to the crowd and into the light. He intertwined their hands before relaxing in the sea of living children. he whispered;
“… M-Maybe j-just a little while longer. ”
