Barty thought it was a little weird that Evan came to tell him, when he could have just sent a note or student to do so. Maybe he just happened to be near Barty’s classroom? It was sweet of him to tell him in person. He worried at his lip and didn't miss how Evan’s eyes flicked down to the movement.
OR
Barty has worked with Evan peacefully for years. He's always thought Evan was attractive, but had decided long ago that he wouldn't ask him out. It could ruin their work friendship, and that was the last thing he wanted.
He was fine with mildly flirty winks and daydreams about him.That was until he realized Evan might possibly like him back.
