Work Text:
Minho was a bit of a coffee connoisseur if he did say so himself. That’s why he was excited to find out that there was a new coffee shop opening nearby. It was exclusively a drive through which he’d never seen before, so he was intrigued to say the least.
Apparently there were more fellow coffee connoisseurs in this city than he had originally thought, because opening day, the place was packed. There were at least a dozen employees running around taking orders on their tablets and two lines wrapped around the small building.
Not only was Minho a coffee connoisseur, he was also incredibly stubborn. He came for that damn coffee and he refused to leave until he got it. The man begrudgingly pulled into line to wait his turn.
Thankfully, the line was actually moving pretty quickly and he was conveniently able to stay cool in his car. Maybe the unconventional setup of not being able to go stand in line wasn’t too bad. He just felt bad for the employees running around in the summer heat. It wasn’t even ten in the morning and it was scorchingly hot outside.
Minho was casually blasting his Taylor Swift playlist with the windows rolled up for maximum air conditioning efficiency.
He was half way through belting the high note in “We Are Never Getting Back Together” when there was a small knock on his window.
Minho was a stubborn coffee connoisseur, but he was also confident.
He didn’t march to the beat of his own drum- he made the drum. He wasn’t the type to get embarrassed by his strange personality or habits. Yet, he’d never been so embarrassed in his entire life when he turned his head to see the most beautiful man he’d ever seen. If there was a world record for how fast someone could pause their music, Lee Minho would have just broken it and he prayed to whoever may be listening that Cute Coffee Boy™ didn’t hear that.
Minho quickly rolled down his window, trying to play it cool and read the man’s name tag.
Jisung.
A pretty name for a pretty boy.
Thankfully, he didn’t say that out loud or else he would have driven over the fucking curb to get out of that line and never looked back.
”Hello! I’m Jisung! Welcome to 8 Brew. Do you need a minute to look at the menu?” The man held up a small sheet of paper with all their drink options on it.
Minho, being the fucking simp he was, was majorly distracted looking at Cute Coffee Boy™ and not the menu. He had big doe eyes, chubby cheeks, and the brightest heart-shaped smile he’d ever seen.
”Um… I’ll just get whatever you recommend.” Minho stuttered out.
“My go to is an iced americano! The brown sugar syrup is my favorite.” He smiled and it was blinding. Minho thought he was going to either go blind or pass out. Either way, it would be worth it.
”Sounds perfect.” Whatever you’re selling, I’m buying.
”Perfect. Can I get your number?”
Minho short circuited. Cute coffee boy wanted to get his number! He could spare himself the embarrassment of asking Jisung himself! He had imaginary angelic choirs singing in his head.
”Oh, uh, sure! Here, if you give me your phone, I’ll put it in for you.” Minho held his hand out, trying to pretend he wasn’t elated.
”…I meant for your order.” Jisung giggled and the sound was almost enough to drown out the crippling embarrassment he was feeling.
ABORT! ABORT! PULL OUT OF THE LINE EVEN IF IT FUCKS UP YOUR CAR! PARTS ARE REPLACEABLE, YOUR EGO IS NOT!
Minho wanted to spontaneously combust. Or crawl into a ball and never move again. Either worked for him. He just wished there was a vaccine he could’ve got prior for humiliation, but alas, doctors haven’t discovered any such preventative.
”…but I wouldn’t be opposed to that as well.” Jisung smiled shyly and Minho silently pondered whether it was healthy to switch through so many emotions so quickly, because he was back to ascending.
Minho nodded dumbly as Jisung passed him his phone with an adorable studio Ghibli phone case on it. He managed to make a contact for himself without further making a fool out of himself and passed it back.
”Minho, hm? Pretty name for a pretty boy.” Jisung smirked, looking at the contact with a little heart at the end.
The man in question had to stop himself for screaming ‘I almost said that to you!’ as if to prove they were operating on the same wavelength.
“I’ll see you later then, Minho?” Jisung asked with hope in his voice.
”For sure.” He nodded resolutely.
A few minutes later while he was waiting for his order, Minho got a text message.
Hey it’s Jisung from the coffee shop!!!
Oh and btw ur gonna need to sing some more T Swift for me some time <3
If Minho decided this was his go to coffee spot before he even took a sip, that was between him and his iced americano.
And if years later, Jisung made fun of how big of an idiot Minho made out of himself when they first met in his vows, that was between them and their wedding guests.
