Work Text:

He’s beautiful…

Kiyoomi usually keeps to himself when he’s on the train. He usually is on his phone, but as soon as he sat down he noticed him.

Right across from him was a guy with blonde hair, dyed obviously, but so pretty. He’s so pretty that Kiyoomi can’t even bring himself to look away. Luckily for Kiyoomi, the guy was too focused on his phone to notice him, at first. Of course, he notices a pair of eyes on him and looks up at Kiyoomi. They made eye contact, for what felt like hours. In reality, it was just a couple of seconds.

Kiyoomi looks away first feeling a bit embarrassed about staring. He glances at the fake blonde, he’s smiling at his phone. Kiyoomi's heart skipped a beat.

The train stopped at Kiyoomi’s stop. He didn’t notice at first but quickly stood up at left.

He should’ve asked the guy for his name. He should’ve introduced himself. He should’ve done something!

He isn’t a hopeless romantic, at least he says. But if he had talked to the guy, what if they turned out to be soulmates or something? He could’ve seen that smile again if he had done something. What if a fairytale moment occurred between them on the train if he hadn’t left?

What if it was fate?

“Dude, are you good?” His cousin asks waving a hand in his face.

“No. I’m not.”

“What happened?”

“I could’ve met my soulmate today but I was too much of a coward to say anything,” he sighs into his hands.

“Soulmate?! Where?”

"On the train. He had blonde hair and has the best smile I've ever seen."

"Like that guy right there?" His cousin pointed behind him. Kiyoomi turned so quickly he almost fell.

There was no one there.

His cousin started laughing for what seemed like hours, "Sorry Kiyo!" He said in between laughs.

“I hope you get hit by a bus, Motoya,” Kiyoomi walks off his cousin trying to catch up, still laughing a bit.

Although he didn’t like his cousin that much right now, yet Kiyoomi felt the need to thank him. Without him pestering Kiyoomi to try a new café with him, he would’ve never gotten on that train. If he never got on that train, he wouldn’t have seen him, and seeing him made Kiyoomi’s day. Even if it was just an innocent little crush Kiyoomi felt.

He couldn’t help himself and think, what if that guy felt the same way he did? He needs to see him again. At least one more time in his life. He needs to say something to him.

The day continued. Kiyoomi's morning was as clear as day. He remembers everything and never stopped thinking about it. Yet by now, he grounded himself a little. He concluded that this was a love that came and left with the train.

A huge part of him hopes to see him again.

____

Atsumu is tired. He wants to go home take a nap and never wake up. Practice was canceled today but Atsumu decided to practice on his own… at 5 AM. He has no idea why he chose 5 AM to practice and why he practiced for 5 hours. If Osamu was with him he would’ve told him it was a stupid idea.

It doesn’t help that there’s a couple on the train. They make him want to rip out his eyes.

They were in their own little world. Holding hands and doing couple stuff. Atsumu thought it was extreme PDA but it wasn’t. He’s just been single for so long that couples remind him of that.

His brother moved in with his boyfriend, soon to be fiancé, some of his friends are getting married, and some of his friends just got into relationships. He just moved to a new city too. He has only made one friend too. He’s been here for a month.

Life just sucks right now.

He decides to text his brother about how life sucks and this day is horrible. He doesn’t even notice when the train comes to a stop and the couple gets off.

Osamu, his brother, responds to his messages with laughing emojis. Why? This isn’t the first time Atsumu rants about this. He’s done this for the past month, every day, and in the morning as well.

Atsumu is typing when he feels a pair of eyes on him. He looks up to see a guy with beautiful black curls, staring at him. The guy looks away first, and Atsumu notices that his ears are red. He looks down at his phone and smiles. He’s cute.

Atsumu: Yk what? Today isn’t that bad anymore :P

Osamu: The hell💀

Atsumu glances up at him again. He has two moles above his eyebrows. His eyes seem so serious. Atsumu wishes he could see the rest of his face but he’s wearing a mask. Nonetheless, Atsumu is sure he’s handsome. He smiles at this.

He looks at his phone for the rest of the train ride and keeps glancing at the stranger. Should he talk to him? It wouldn’t hurt. What if he gets a new friend… or maybe more?

Atsumu stops himself. He’s being delusional and he hasn’t even talked to the guy yet.

Before he can make a decision, the train reaches a halt. The stranger with dark curly hair gets off. Atsumu lost his chance.

Atsumu: You suck

Osamu: What now?

Atsumu: You look like me so I’m technically telling myself I suck rn

Osamu: That’s stupid

Atsumu: You’re stupid

Osamu: You just called yourself stupid technically

Atsumu puts his phone down because he doesn’t know what to say. He brought that onto himself, and might as well accept defeat silently.

“So you met… wait let me rephrase. Made eye contact with a guy on the train for less than a second now he’s stuck in your head?”

“Yes.”

Atsumu’s friend starts laughing at him. Understandably, his friend finds this ridiculous. Who wouldn’t?

“Oikawa, you’re not helping.”

“What do you want me to do? Become an FBI agent?” Oikawa responds sarcastically.

“If ya wouldn’t mind!”

Atsumu’s friend has been able to find people’s social medias without any information. But only when he sees them himself. Just a verbal description won’t do, but he could at least try.

“Okay, okay. Black curly hair, two moles above his eyebrows, and was wearing a mask, right?”

“Yup!”

“I can try to look for him but no promises. If I do what are you going to say? “I saw you on the train the other day and I think you’re my soulmate!” Or do you just want to stalk him?”

“I never said he was my soulmate…”

“It was implied.”

“Whatever. I just wanna stalk him a bit. See his face you know?”

“Whatever you say,” Oikawa hums.

“Shouldn’t you get going? You’re already late…”

“I’m going to quit soon anyway so it doesn’t matter,” his friend shrugs.

Oikawa is his neighbor as well as his friend. He comes by Atsumu’s apartment usually every day before work. They enjoy each other’s company and try to see when their schedules match up to make plans. Atsumu probably would’ve moved back home if he hadn’t met Oikawa.

“Have you told anyone?”

“Nope, and don’t plan to.  Do you think I should get a cat?

“Absolutely. You should adopt one from the shelter.”

“I should! When are you free next week? We’ll go together.”

“Wednesday in the afternoon?”

“Works with me!”

Oikawa leaves after another hour. Atsumu is left on his own again. His thoughts still filled with the stranger again.

Hopefully I see him again.

______

It’s been a week.

Kiyoomi can’t take this any more. He keeps thinking about the guy on the train. He pops up in his head randomly. Kiyoomi even dreamt of him last night! Scared the living shit out of him. It was a cute dream though.

He and the stranger were camping in the mountains. Kiyoomi got to see that smile again. He wants to see it in real life.

Does he live in this city or a couple towns away? If he was just visiting, what are the chances Kiyoomi will see him again? Zero. Kiyoomi thinks.if he does live in the city, could they meet at a party or something? Unrealistic because Kiyoomi doesn’t like parties.

What if he thinks of me too?

Kiyoomi groans in frustration. He’s delusional. This person doesn’t even know who he is or even cares.

He’s laying on the couch looking at the ceiling just thinking. What would he even do if he saw him again? He could barely say anything that time. What makes him think he could say something next time?

His thoughts wander off to things he would like to do with the stranger. Dates they could have.

“Is Kiyo thinking about the stranger, I mean his soulmate again?” His cousin questions with a smirk on his face.

“Fuck off.”

“How do you expect to find him if you only go to the same three places everyday? Let’s go look for him!”

“We’re not going to find him.”

“Not with that attitude… cmon let’s go!”

It can’t hurt Kiyoomi to go out for fresh air. He’s not going to find him. Wouldn’t hurt to come across him again.

It’s past noon, the day is nice. A walk would help Kiyoomi relax his mind, and forget about the stranger.

“Fine.”

“Great! Now hurry the fuck up.”

“Are you fucking serious Motoya? You said it was a walk.”

“I never said where the walk would end. You like dogs anyway so what are you  complaining about?”

“Fine.”

The two were currently at the local animal shelter. Komori had mentioned he was thinking of adopting a pet recently. Kiyoomi hates animal shelters because he feels bad for the animals. He would adopt a pet of his own if he lease allowed him, it doesn’t.

They start walking down the hall towards the kennels. Once they reach them, Komori as well as Kiyoomi make sure to give their attention to every animal.

Komori falls in love with a terrier a little over a year old. The worker asks if he wants to play with the dog outside, and Komori says yes immediately.

“You should adopt her.”

“I know! She’s perfect!” His smile is so bright it’s blinding Kiyoomi.

“I’m going to look at the cats, I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

“Okay!”

Kiyoomi goes back inside heading towards the cat kennels. He needs to ask if he could foster any animals at his apartment. Seeing all them like this he wants to be able to make them feel happy, even if it’s only for a bit. Pets are only a part of human lives, but we are their entire life.

He opens the door leading into the cat section and freezes.

Right in front of him is the beautiful stranger from the train.

“Train guy?!”

______

“You can text your boyfriend later, let’s go already!” Atsumu whines.

They were supposed to leave for the shelter an hour ago, but Oikawa is busy on his phone. He met a guy on Sunday at a random Chinese restaurant down the street. He got his number and they’ve been talking ever since.

“He’s not mine yet, he will be soon,” Oikawa smirks.

“And I thought I was delusional,” Atsumu laughs.

“You’re just mad I couldn’t find the train guy.”

“Am not. I’ve forgotten all about him,” Atsumu avoids all eye contact. He hasn’t forgotten about the train guy. He thinks about him at least 20 times a day, Oikawa knows this.

“No need to lie! Come on let’s go,” Oikawa puts on his shoes and starts heading outside.

Atsumu hurries and follows him.

Oikawa wants a cat. He made that very clear. But both Atsumu and Oikawa are falling in love with every cat they see. They can’t help it.

“Oh my god. Can I hold this one?” Oikawa asks the worker.

“He doesn’t like many people. He could scratch you.”

“I’m fine with that.”

The worker as well as Atsumu look at Oikawa again to make sure he agrees. He does.

Oikawa was now hugging a black cat with olive green eyes. The cat starts purring in his arms.

“I’ll take him right now.”

Atsumu notices that Oikawa looks like he’s about to cry but he also looks determined.

The worker looked shocked but gave him a nod. They all walk down the hall toward the exit. Atsumu is behind Oikawa and the worker. He ends up getting distracted by kittens. They left him behind.

He reaches the door and it opens before he could open it.

“Train guy?!”

______

They’re both in disbelief. Here? Now? Atsumu accidentally let the nickname slip out.

“What?” Kiyoomi asks. He doesn’t know if being a train guy is a good or bad thing. Did the blonde give him the nickname because he stared at him? Is he a creep in his eyes?!

Atsumu is embarrassed. Now the guy knows he’s been thinking about him enough to give him a nickname. He can feel his cheeks getting hot.

“Oh, um nothing,” Atsumu rushes out of there, but Kiyoomi isn’t going to let him go this time.

“Wait!” Kiyoomi has no idea what he’s going to say or do.

Atsumu doesn’t know why he’s running away. He wants to talk to him but his legs aren’t listening to him.

That is until Kiyoomi reaches him and grabs his wrist. He lets go immediately though.

“Sorry. I promise I’m not a creep or anything,” Kiyoomi takes off his mask so the blonde could see his expressions.

Oh my god, he’s gorgeous… Atsumu thinks, stunned.

This is train guy? Atsumu knew he would be handsome but wow. Train guy chased after him?

“I saw you on the train the other day and I think you’re beautiful…” Kiyoomi is getting red so he pauses a bit thinking about what to say.

Atsumu is blushing like crazy. He had never been called beautiful before.

“What’s your name?” Kiyoomi asks.

“M-Miya Atsumu,” Atsumu barely manages to get out, ”You are?”

“Sakusa Kiyoomi. Glad to make your acquaintance, Miya.”

“Likewise… call me Atsumu.”

“Alright, Atsumu.”

Atsumu could die right here and be happy.

Kiyoomi is just happy he was able to say something to Atsumu.

“Could I get your number?” They both ask at once. They blush and laugh a little.

They exchanged numbers and Kiyoomi sees the smile he’s been obsessed with for the past week. He can’t help but smile too.

“We should get coffee soon,” Kiyoomi says.

“Sounds like a date, Omi,” Atsumu smiles.

Omi? Kiyoomi doesn’t hate it.

“My friend is waiting for me so I should get going. Text ya later Omi!” Atsumu says heading off.

“See you soon, Atsumu,” Kiyoomi waves.

Atsumu smiles at him again. Kiyoomi’s over the moon.

_____

“There you are! I was wondering where you went. Why are you so happy?” Oikawa asks.

“I just got train guy’s number,” Atsumu smirks.

_____

“Where did you go Kiyo? I was looking for you,” Komori asks.

“Just meeting my beautiful stranger,” Kiyoomi smiles.
