He’s behind that door.
He’s waiting, and she knows it.
After everything that has happened, she wants to know (has to know).
Despite all she has witnessed— the death of her fellow agent, all the countless hours of research, the investigation of the Camera family barn, those sleepless nights solving his cyphers, seeing those maggot-infested bodies.
Lee Harker feels her pulse race through the roof faster and higher than it ever has before.
She’s seeing things she can’t sleep anymore.
Blood and serpents cloud her mind, relentless and unmerciful.
Everything feels like too much and yet too little at the same time. These visions that torment her so. Perhaps in finally coming face to face with this monster she can finally seek the closure she so desperately desires.
Wouldn’t that be sweet?
~~~
She’s behind that door.
She’s terrified, and he knows it.
His Lee, his little angel. All grown up nowadays!
In a twisted way, he is proud of her; what a smart little lady she’s been cracking his codes, finding his dolls, and figuring out who he was. She’s always been special, his little Lee.
A daughter of the seventh, she indeed.
The man giggles to himself; the sound is shill and harsh but undoubtedly joyous. He’s waited so long for this to be in her presence and meet again.
After all, they are friends of a friend of a friend.
The man downstairs has kept his end of the bargain, and now the time has finally come to pass.
And he won’t even have to take off his longlegs to see her.
~~~
Her heartbeat hammers with such fury she can feel it in her throat. The door is open, and they are finally reunited.
What was once a snowy wonderland between them all those years ago has now faded into a grey and unremarkable detainment room.
And yet Lee has never felt more cold.
His visage is warped and uncanny. Her grainy childhood photo really doesn’t do it much justice. To the untrained eye, it looks like plastic surgery went awfully wrong, and it very well could be for all she knows.
Under his pale exterior lies all the malice and malignancy the world has to endure. Of this, Lee is certain. She wants to look away and run back, even screaming as she goes, but she cannot.
Lee always wanted to catch the monster, ever since she was small. She opens her mouth to speak, but the monster beats her to the chase.
~~~
He’s waited a long time for this; they both have.
She’s different but still the same. Big brown eyes that captivated him on that blistering morning all those years ago. Looking at him once more.
Oh, how he’s missed her! His jewel!
He starts to weep his shrivelled excuse of a heart clenching at her appearance.
She will learn to understand, just like her mother did and bow all the way down.
Maybe even appreciate him, like a good friend should.
His part is over now, and he has gotten so very dirty.
But in front of his little doll, he’s never felt more clean.
The tears fall to his bloated lips as he exclaims in an elated cry.
“Oh, there she is!”
