Work Text:

I just wanted to play my favorite roblox game… but now this will be a day I will never forget. I cannot live my life anymore. I'm in pain and being haunted by this… thing.

It was the start of the phrenzy, and the servers had been severely acting up. However I had made it into a lobby with my friend.

We were just kind of fooling around. But slowly dwindled the number of players with us… all until it was just me, my friend, and some random guy.

Then a strange scene played out in front of me.

The screen started glitching until it was just bright red.

The only thing I could see was red… until Valk showed up. Not out of the ordinary usually, but he was in his dove outfit… a phestival from months ago? Why was he in that outfit now?

He started talking. Rapidly. So fast I couldn't read what he was saying.

I was full of confusion and slight dread as I scrambled to take a screenshot of what was happening on my screen. It was absurd. But unfortunately I couldn't get anything as it was over as fast as it started.

I had asked my friend if they had actually seen any of that, and they didn't. I was the only one that saw it.

It was so strange. However this wasn't the first time weird things have happened to me in video games, I've had my fair share of falling into the void and missing videos. I didn't think much of it, I just shared it to other friends in other places and they laughed and then I forgot about it for a while.

That was… until last week…

It was late at night, everyone else in my house was asleep. I had just turned off my computer after playing phighting for a couple hours. As I got into my bed, strange stuff started happening…

As I tried to close my eyes, my entire room became cloaked in a familiar shade of red. My eyes shot back open at the sudden light as I squinted at my computer, the source of the light.

It was that same glitchy red screen as before.

I got up to turn my computer off again, but as I got closer I just had this gut feeling… I fought it and continued walking.

The closer I got the more I could… hear something… It was… the phighting lobby music…?

I had already had enough of this at that point, it was 3am and I just wanted to sleep.

I tried turning the computer off only for it to immediately turn back on again. I huffed in annoyance and went to just shut it completely but as soon as I touched the top of the screen something else appeared in the red.

Sat there was Valk. In his dove outfit.

I had to double take. Why was he here again? He shouldn't even still be in this game, at least not in this form.

His mouth started moving. But no sound came out at first. Just the lobby music playing until it slowed down and started to distort.

The music slowed to a weird droning sound for a couple seconds before it cut out completely.

And that's when sound finally started to come from Valk. It wasn't timed with his mouth movements but the noise he was making was clear and LOUD.

It was dove cooing. The call of a mourning dove… at first it was just 3 one after the other, each coo making his head tilt to the side more. It was a bit eerie, but it was fine. and then it started happening multiple times on top of eachother.

The sound just kept playing and playing and PLAYING AND PLAYING each new sound just overlapped the other until it was just an incomprehensible roaring cacophony.

It hurt my ears and I could hear my laptop speakers being strained as the coos coming out of it got even more distorted than they already were.

I was genuinely freaked out at this point. I was just staring into Valk’s eyes. It seemed like he was just staring directly into my being. His expression never changed. Just the same smile he always had.

I decided to try something. I backed away from my computer and walked to the corner of the room.

His head was following me. No matter where I stepped he would turn his head to face me… while still making that horrific sound.

And that's when I noticed the webcam was on.

I ran to my computer and slammed it shut. The noises coming from the computer quieted.

But they didn't stop.

I could hear the coos. The overlapping, horrible coos. I turned to the source of the sound, which wasn't my computer but my window.

There were so many little beady eyes watching me. Pink and yellow eyes.

I screamed.

They were cooing, scraping their talons on the window pane… banging their beaks on it…

They were all mourning doves. So many of them that I couldn't even comprehend the sheer number of them. I couldn't see out the window anymore. They were so loud it was the only thing I could hear, I could barely hear my screaming over the sounds.

I shut the blinds but I could still feel their eyes on me. I ran to the farthest part of my room away from them and put my hands over my ears. I screamed for them to LEAVE ME ALONE PLEASE but they WOULDN'T STOP. IT WOULDN'T EVER STOP.

I had managed to wake up everyone in the house with my screaming. I tried to explain the best I could over my terror and through the fact I couldn't hear them over the doves.

But they couldn't hear it. They couldn't see them. Nothing was there for them.

I begged them to understand and they wouldn't, they said I was insane and left to go back to sleep.

The doves wouldn't stop.

They were starting to break my window and I was terrified of what was gonna happen when they got in.

I didn't sleep.

I had covered myself in my blankets and faced away from the doves. They never stopped. The entire night I watched the hours tick by on my clock.

4…

5…

6…

The window cracked.

It cracked again.

And again.

The cooing got IMPOSSIBLY LOUDER.

And I felt something land on my blanket, I immediately threw it off.

I saw feathers fly.

The doves got in THE FUCKING DOVES GOT IN.

I screamed again as the thousands of doves terrorizing me descended upon me, they covered every inch of my body and began ripping into me with their beaks and talons.

They weren't mortal wounds, but they were deep and angry and HUNGRY.

Blood was starting to flow out of my wounds as I thrashed desperately and screamed, trying to throw them off but their talons were gripped into me so tight THEY WEREN'T COMING OFF.

They were going for my nails and my eyes. I had slammed my eyelids closed tight to stop them from damaging my eyes but I was terrified they would just rip my eyelids open.

I heard another sound over the oppressive sounds of the doves.

Laughter… at least the most laughter you could convey through beeping.

It was Valk. Somehow my computer was on again and he was there and LAUGHING AT ME.

I had no idea how I could hear it over the doves but it was just as constant as the cooing.

Through my little strength I had left I managed to yell one thing at Valk while wings and feathers and beaks swarmed.

“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT FROM ME!?”

He just laughed louder.

And after that. I passed out.

I woke up in the hospital the next day. Nobody understood what happened. I told my story, but apparently there was no proof of it happening.

I had so many wounds that had to be stitched closed, especially around my eyes. I was missing a few fingernails and toenails too.

I was contacted by some local ghost hunters, who claimed that something paranormal happened to me…

and I agree.

Whatever that… thing was… it couldn't have been Valk. There's some spirit somewhere terrorizing me and nobody believes it happened and I don't know what to do.

I'm home and can't sleep anymore, I can feel it driving me insane but I just can't. Every time I try to sleep I remember it. Every time I hear a mourning dove I freeze. The window may be fixed now but I can't look at it without thinking of the incident. I destroyed my computer days ago…

but I don't think that solved it.

I fear that might not have been the end of this ordeal. Whatever I did to anger that spirit, I cannot tell if it's satisfied or not.

As I write this I can hear it again. The scraping, the cooing, it's getting LOUDER ITS ATMH WINDOW ITS BACK THREYER AT MY WOFNDOW AGAIN PLEASNJO NO NONO NO NO N
