"There must be a reason, surely," Celeste tugs at a loose curl, seemingly annoyed. "A reason as to why you are being so difficult."
Kyoko waits with bated breath, for Celeste to move on to something else like she always did, but this time, she didn't. And so, Kyoko heaves out a sigh, allows the tension to seep from her bones as she slumps in her seat, chair creaking.
Celeste observes the other's hands finding one another, fingers brushing together delicately. "I can't rely on people because..."
"Because–?"
"–what I'm attempting to say is," Kyoko's gaze is cold as it meets Celeste's, "There is no reason. It is simply how things are–
There is no issue.
There is no nothing.
There is. No. Reason."
"So please, give it up."
There is a firmness in her voice that has heat coiling in Celeste's abdomen.
"Stop pushing for an answer that doesn't exist."
With that, the girl spins on her heels and makes haste for the exit of the recreational room, her mind blank.
Celeste lets her go, only then remembering the reason she had called for them to meet in the first place. She had been swept up in mindless chit-chat, and it was all because she was too absorbed in Kyoko.
Kyoko and her lilac eyes.
Her gloved hands.
And her difficult personality that Celeste knew better than to be drawn to.
But her cards have already been dealt, and there was no going back on a misplay.
