It's late when Joel brings it up, they've been playing together all day, a silly server for them to just mess around, maybe practice building a bit. Never anything recorded there.
Jimmy is working on building a simple house, comments from Joel much more few than usual.
“Jimmy - what.” He sighs.
“What are we?”
Jimmy stops for a moment, before turning his character to face Joel’s.
“What do you mean?”
(It can't mean what Jimmy wants it to mean. He can't let himself be hopeful)
“Well, like, y know. Us. The two of us together. What exactly are we?”
Jimmy sputters a little, “I, you. Joel you have a wife, i-”
“Lizzie, she uh, she doesn't mind.”
Jimmy switches his screen over to their discord call, sees Joel’s cheeks are bright red.
“What -” Jimmy’s voice cracks a little.
Joel looks up, their eyes meeting through the cameras.
“Lizzie said she's talked with Kirsty before as well,”
“Joel.”
“and she had said she doesn't think she would mind either,”
“Joel.”
“so I dunno now but-”
“JOEL.”
They're both silent.
“Sorry for yelling. I- uh.” he shakes his head. “You talked to my girlfriend behind my back about this? Why would you do that?”
“No, no jimmy, I- she. She and Lizzie were just talking and joking about us because we were hanging out together, and Kirsty brought up the fact that she thought that you liked me. I- we- I didn't do this, I'm not trying to force anything. Sorry for messing this all up. I’ll talk to you later.”
and Joel hangs up, disconnecting from the server a few moments later.
Jimmy sits there in shocked silence till Norman comes over and starts rubbing against his legs. Jimmy sighs, removing his headphones before picking him up, gently cuddling him.
“I think I messed it all up big man.”
There's radio silence from Joel for 3 days before Jimmy finally breaks and makes the first move. During those days he had talked, with Kirsty, and with Lizzie. He had made up his mind. Now, he just had to go through with it.
Joel wasn't expecting anything or anyone, so he was surprised when he heard a knock on the door, and then he heard Lizzie yelling at him to answer, cause she was just about to get in the shower.
He really, really didn't expect to see Jimmy standing at his front door, holding... a bouquet of flowers?
“Jimmy?”
“Hi Joel, these are for you, can I come in?”
Joel steps to the side in silence.
Jimmy smiles brightly at him as he walks in, putting the flowers into a vase all nicely and placing them on the dining room table.
Joel is confused honestly, “Jimmy i-” He turns to face him and jimmy is, oh so close to him.
“Hi.”
“Jimmy-”
“Can I kiss you?”
Joel feels himself nod before he's even processed the question.
Jimmy’s lips are softer than Joel would have thought, and one of Jimmy’s hands comes up to rest on Joel’s face. Joel places his hands onto Jimmy's waist and relaxes into the kiss.
They're both smiling like idiots as they pull away.
Joel asks it again
“What are we?”
“Dating, if you'd like to be?”
Joel nods, resting his head onto Jimmy's chest. “You're a good kisser.”
“Mmm, I've had better.”
“Oi!” Joel shoves Jimmy a little, and Jimmy just laughs.
“God, you're cute when you're annoyed”
Joel blushes and half-heartedly gives him another shove. He pulls away but grabs Jimmy's hand, “C'mon, we're gonna watch some garbage tv and cuddle now.”
Jimmy lets himself be pulled over to the sofa, “Fine by me.”
By the time Lizzie finishes in the shower and is dressed, the boys are both asleep cuddling on the sofa, she snaps a quick pic and sends it to Kirsty, the caption being ‘I think things are all worked out’
