    Branzy had passed out, roughly at the same time as when Clown had started choking him out with the handle of his axe. It seemed the sight of him going limp in the jester’s arms had finally convinced his teammates that Clown meant business.

    They’d seemed relatively willing about the ransom, at least. He just needed a few days of quiet, really, and having their teammate at his mercy should do to keep them off his back. It was a civil arrangement. He needed to regear after a few too many deaths, tensions were too high for him to just hightail off to a farm, no one had to get hurt in this.

    Clown thinks Branzy will be an easy hostage for both of them. He is wrong.

    With a twitching arm, the villain grabbed the watch on his other hand, pressing a bright red button. “Corvus will get you,” he rasped before his head fell to the side as he lost consciousness.

    Cardinal bent down on his knee, grabbing the villain’s collar with both fists. “Who is Corvus? Hey, wake up! Who’s Corvus?” The villain’s head just lolled back, and Cardinal dropped him harshly from frustration. “Find out who Corvus is!”

    Or, Cardinal (Tommy) is the best of the best when it comes to young heroes, and he knows it. Well, so do the Syndicate. And they'll do just about anything to get him on their side.

    Everything is quiet, the world has paused and the only sound is the squelching of the knife he digs into his mentor's chest. The heroes behind him are silent.

     

    Once he’s finished cutting into his mentor's chest he stands. He’s covered in blood and he feels powerful,

     

    “Nightmare is dead. Nightmare will never fight again, Solaris will, Solaris lives.” He’s looking at the helicopters, right into the lens of the camera watching him. He’s shocked they haven't cut the cameras.

     

    “I am Solaris, and I am not a sidekick.”

     

    Tommy will not let himself be a sidekick, and if that takes getting a job at the hero tower to use information to prove that he is powerful, he will.
