Work Text:

Song was standing outside the Hugo Oak Academy, patiently waiting for her youngest daughter to finish her last class of the day. The rest of their family were home sick, and so, Song decided that she'd spend the day with Wolf. They didn't get a lot of time to hang out, just the two of them, because of her work schedule. Now that she had taken the time off, she was hoping to make up for it.

Song tapped her foot against the ground, absentmindedly thinking about how her and Wolf would spend their day together. They could go to the movies, or take a walk together, or go shopping, or get their hair done. She was so excited!

The school bell rang and students began to exit the school building, making their way back home. Song found Wolf amongst the crowd, walking up to her as fast as possible to avoid losing her with the other students. As soon as Wolf's eyes landed on her mom, her lips turned upwards into a smile. The two hugged each other when they were close enough, and Song placed a kiss on Wolf's forehead, stroking her hair gently.

"Hi, honey! I thought I was gonna pick you up so we could do something fun together. Just the two of us!" Song said and Wolf beamed with happiness.

"Really? Where are we going?" she asked curiously.

"I'm not sure. We can do anything you want."

Wolf hummed in thought. She wanted to get something nice for her entire family, since they were sick.

"Can we go to the candy store? Kipo wanted to try out the new sweets they brought in," Wolf requested and Song nodded, taking her daughter's hand as they began to walk away from the school.

"How has your day been? I didn't see your friends with you earlier," Song asked.

"They're both sick. I think there's some virus going around. We were sent home with lots of homework and I was gonna ask Kipo for help, but I don't think she's feeling well enough," Wolf explained.

"Oh, in that case, I'll help you! We can look at your homework tonight!" Song offered.

"Thank you, I really apprec- Woah!" Wolf was in the middle of her sentence when she tripped over a large rock, losing her balance before she ended up falling to the ground with a startled scream.

Song gasped in surprise, immediately kneeling down beside her daughter to check on her. "Wolf? Are you okay?"

Wolf sat up, hissing in pain as her palms and knees burned from the impact. When she squinted her eyes open, she found the knees of her jeans torn with blood slipping out from the wound.

"I-..." she started, wincing as she attempted to stand back up.

"Careful, baby! Here, let me help you." Song assisted Wolf into a standing position, letting the girl lean into her for support. "Do you think you can walk?"

Wolf wasn't sure, but she didn't want to show weakness, and so, she nodded her head and took a step forward, only to whimper in pain when the skin on her knee stretched.

"Are you sure you can walk?" Song asked and Wolf decided to be honest and shake her head.

Song lifted Wolf up and settled her on her hip, making sure that her knees and palms didn't scrape against her clothes. She carried the young girl all the way home, figuring that Wolf wouldn't want to go to the candy store with dried blood on her.

Luckily, Wolf wasn't too heavy, and it didn't take more than ten minutes to reach their home. Song didn't put Wolf down even when the front door closed behind them. Instead, she carried her daughter to the bathroom and sat her down on the closed toilet lid before she turned to the bathroom cabinet to search for antibiotics.

"I can do it myself, you don't have to-" Wolf began to protest, but Song interrupted her.

"It's okay, honey. It doesn't bother me. Just let me take care of you," she soothed and Wolf fell silent.

As soon as Song found everything thst she was looking for, she cleaned the wounds up and put a generous amount of bandaids on them. She comforted Wolf whenever she made a pained sound, making sure to be gentle.

"Is that better?" Song asked and Wolf nodded with a slight smile on her face.

"Thank you, mom."

"Of course, honey! How about we go to the candy store another day, hm? You should rest."

Wolf nodded again.

She didn't mind waiting a couple days to go to the candy store because she knew that Song would be there if she asked.

She had proven that time and time again.
