Nico Robin has a complicated history with water. Of course, being that she is a Devil Fruit user, the sea water weakens her, threatens to subdue her, to end her existence as her punishment from the world for eating the forbidden fruit of the sea. As she watched her home in Ohara, her mom, her friend Saul burn during the bustercall, all Robin could do to survive, to live for those that could no longer was to flee to the sea. All that water surrounded Ohara, and yet, none of it could save the scholarly island from meeting a fiery demise. Yet, the rain is easily one of Robin’s favorite weather conditions, as it acts as a cleanser to the earth and to her soul.
Today, the Straw Hat Pirates have anchored the Thousand Sunny off the coast of a relatively deserted island, much like the island Mont Blanc Cricket lives on. They have a few extra members amongst their ever-expanding crew with them today, partaking in the fun under the sun. Notably, these extra members of the day are Boa Hancock, Trafalgar Law and his wife Asami, and Princess Vivi of Alabasta. Currently, most of the crew is enjoying time together in the water, a few with notable accommodations. Not needing any form of accommodation, Sanji is wading deeper into the water with a bikini-clad Nami sitting on his shoulders, the navigator shrieking with laughter. Vivi races after them, her swimming form nearly flawless as she pulls Chopper behind her as the reindeer doctor cheers excitedly from the small float Franky designed to keep sea water off the Straw Hat members with Devil Fruit powers. Boa Hancock reclines on a raft, lovingly watching Luffy, the new King of the Pirates, as he jumps off the railing of the Thousand Sunny into the water below, pulling Usopp in with him every time. The King of the Pirates whoops loudly each time before he jumps, ensuring that his floats are properly inflated as he nears the water. After hitting the water, the two friends climb back up the rigging to do it all over again.
Brook and Law remain on the beach, the skeleton crewmate switching between playing music for the crew and telling jokes while Law goes in search for coconuts and other fruits to keep Asami and the Straw Hats hydrated during their prolonged time in the sun. As the two strongest swimmers of the group, not including Sanji, Jinbei and Asami swim laps around the crew’s chosen swimming area, ensuring that their friends stay safe and that no one is in danger of drowning or is having struggles in the water. Franky pops in and out of the water where he doesn’t rust, but when the cyborg is in the water, he pushes Boa Hancock’s raft around in the ocean, allowing the Pirate Empress to get a closer look at the crew’s activities.
“Did you want to join in on the festivities?” Zoro’s voice suddenly comes, warm against Robin’s neck as the swordsman wraps his arms firmly and securely around his raven-haired wife’s waist.
“Zoro,” Robin breathes, pressing herself further against Zoro’s broad, warm, muscular chest. “How would I get to enjoy the ocean?” she inquires, a shiver shooting down her spine as Zoro nuzzles his nose against Robin’s neck and throat.
“Have you such little faith in me, woman?” the green-haired swordsman teases.
“Does the great Roronoa Zoro have a plan?” Robin teases back.
“Quite a good one, I believe,” Zoro devilishly smiles, wasting not a second before scooping Robin into his arms and carefully placing her atop his well-muscled shoulders.
“You’d carry me into the water?”
“If that damn lovesick cook can do it, then I can, too.”
“This is to prove yourself better than Sanji?”
“This is to prove myself as wholly devoted to you. I want the woman I love to enjoy what could very well be her first real day at the beach,” Zoro clarifies, entering into the ocean with Robin safely perching atop his shoulders.
Robin can’t help but think that this utter devotion is just one of a great many reasons that marrying this man was one of the best decisions she ever made in her entire life.
