    He’d bought it as a joke.
    When he and James had run around the Muggle town during the summer and had found the little shop tucked away in a corner, they’d entered for a laugh.
    But when James had pointed out the collars in the corner, they’d both gone into fits of laughter, tears running down their faces, imagining Padfoot sporting one of the metallic and leather contraptions.
    So he’d bought one. Because he had a childish sense of humor, and he had enough money in his vaults that it didn’t matter.

    But when Remus finds it....that's another story.
