Work Text:
He slowly approached the figure standing close to the ledge of the pathway. Even in the darkest nights he would not be able to mistake who stood before him. He took a moment to collect himself before starting to speak.
“All I have wanted for any of us was to be alive and well living our lives.” He said while facing the back of the figure who he once longed for in years past. Even now when seeing him, his heart yearned for the past in which he held a simple yet true love, one that would never be more than a late-night fantasy among the stars.
He took a few steps forward while the figure remained unmoving. “Why did you not let me help? I care for you deeply and yet you did not once seek refuge with me.”
The wind blew, making the figure’s hair sway. The moon was high in the sky and countless stars could be seen casting an ethereal view. The figure moved their head to the side slightly before speaking.
“I am not the person you long for.”
Jing Yuan paused for a moment letting the words process. Even after countless rejections the feeling of pain and despair never grew more bearable, even so he pushed forward.
“You are not making any sense. You are the same person I have known for centuries, the same person who I would like to get to know once more after all these years apart.” There was a soft plea in his words begging the figure to not push him away, to not leave him once more. “Yingxing please-”
“Enough.”
‘Yingxing’ turned to face him, eyes devoid of emotions. “I am not who you once knew, Jing Yuan. I do not wish to know who you become, and I do not long for any connection with you. You will not get what you desire from me.”
They both stood in silence before the figure began to leave and, in an attempt, to keep him close Jing yuan blurted out “And what of Dan Heng? He is not who you long for and yet you continue to ceaselessly chase after him. Every word you've uttered to me can be applied to you so why won't you give us a chance.”
“You know as well as I that he has gone under a false rebirth. You were the one who released him from his shackles and presented him the items of our professed love. I am simply wanting the man who made a vow to me to take responsibility for what I have become.” The figure faced Jing yuan before uttering the final sentence, “You are chasing a fantasy that should have died long ago.”
With that the figure quickly took his leave, not taking one look back at the man he left alone under the moonlight. Jing Yuan quietly watched as he left wanting to reach out and force him to stay but knowing that no matter how much love he had to offer him it would be nothing but a pile of rocks in comparison to the love that he holds for Dan Feng. He takes a look at the stars and the scenery that he once viewed as ethereal and lets the fantasy he held so dearly die once more.
He knew that as long as his heart continued to beat his love for the man he once knew would not falter. He would suffer the words of rejection time and time again as long as he was able to see his face once more.
