Stolas' Gratitude

Summary:

Following Moxxie and Millie's rescue of Stolas from Striker, the prince felt he needed to show the two imps his gratitude. Hopefully he was paying attention when blitz told him about the two and their interests.

Notes:

I've always wanted to explore the idea of Stolas trying to make genuine friends. I've seen countless fanart of him being friends with M&M and wanted to do a quick little fic exploring that as well. I also wanted to take the first steps with Stolas in working through his deep seeded classism by being genuine and thoughtful towards M&M not just in words but also in actions.

Work Text:

Moxxie’s eyes fluttered open on a calm Saturday morning to the sight of his beautiful wife peacefully sleeping next to him in bed. He smiled before sitting up and stretching, his voice letting out a low groan as he did so. Millie was roused to alertness by her husband’s groaning. She watched as her husband stretched his arms above his head, his shirt riding up letting her peak at his slightly exposed tummy.

“Morning sweetie.” Millie said as she got up and wrapped her arms around Moxxie’s torso.

“Good morning.” Moxxie said as he gave his wife a peck on the cheek. “Let me make us some coffee.”

“Mmm sounds good.” Millie responded.

Moxxie got out of bed and walked into the kitchen and began his most sacred ritual of coffee preparation. He had an entire cabinet dedicated to different machines, devices, and gizmos all for the explicit purpose of brewing the “perfect” coffee. Millie hardly tasted a difference but she enjoyed watching Moxxie indulge in his hobby. As the coffee began to drip into their mugs Millie walked up to her husband and wrapped her arms around him from behind. She nuzzled her face into the back of his neck as he handed her her mug.

“Let me know what you think honey.” Moxxie said as the two of them sipped.

“Perfect. Just like it always is.” Millie responded as she took a seat at the kitchen table.

A gentle knock at the door interrupted the two. Neither of them were expecting visitors and were a bit suspicious. Blitz would’ve already been inside if he wanted to be here and they couldn’t think of anyone else who would show up unannounced. Moxxie got up from his chair and walked towards the door pulling out his sidearm on the off chance that Striker decided to try to get even. With a subtle peek through the peephole Moxxie saw that there was no one standing outside the door. The door creaked open only as much as the door chain allowed it. Looking around Moxxie saw nothing on the apartment’s front steps except for a large wicker basket with deep purple gift wrap and attached was a small envelope signed with the name “Stolas”. Curious, Moxxie lifted the basket up and brought it inside, straining slightly at its considerable weight.

“Whatcha got there Mox?” Millie asked.

“I’m not sure. It’s from the prince.” Moxxie responded as he opened the envelope to see a letter written in beautiful handwriting.:

Dear Moxxie and Millie Knowlastname,

I wish to express my sincerest thanks for your daring rescue. I hope you have been able to recover and rest after your heroic battle with that dreadful cowboy. I feel that I owe you both a token of my gratitude. I know that no material gift could ever be enough to repay the debt I owe you both but I hope you will find these gifts acceptable.

If these gifts are not to your liking please alert me at once. You can reach me at 666-588-2548. I will admit that most of my knowledge regarding your gifts comes from what Blitz has told me about you. I can tell he has a great fondness and admiration for you both, and after seeing your magnificent display of skill the other day I can see why.

P.S. The next performance of Phantom of the Opera is this weekend. I would love to join you if you would allow me.

Sincerely,

Stolas of the Ars Goetia

“Well that was thoughtful of the prince.” Millie said, slightly surprised. “Open it up Mox, let’s see what he got us.”

Moxxie removed the high quality gift wrap from the top of the basket. At the very top of the assorted items was a single potted lily with petals that were pure white near the center of the flower but gradually shift into a deep purple color near the tips. Surrounding the potted lily was a wide assortment of fresh fruits, cured meats, and artisanal cheeses. His eyes went wide as he pulled out a wedge of brie and nibbled it.

“Oh crumbs Millie you’ve got to try this!” Moxxie said but as he looked up at his wife she was already munching on a slice of soppressata with an equally wide expression. The two spent a moment exchanging their artisanal meats and cheeses before coming to their senses and returning to the basket.

Tucked into one corner of the basket was a small envelope with Moxxie’s name on it that the imp pulled out. Upon opening he pulled out two small laminated cards. They were a matte black color with gold trim and had emblazoned on their front “Morningstar Theater Season Tickets: Box A”. Moxxie’s jaw dropped in disbelief at the sight of the writing. The Morningstar Theater was the most acclaimed theater in Hell. Season tickets cost thousands of dollars just for middling seats. Moxxie thought that there must be a mistake. There was no way the prince had given them their own private box.

As Moxxie frantically read the cards to verify his mistake he heard a giddy squeal from Millie. He looked up to see that his wife was now brandishing two large combat knives covered in ornate etchings along the blade. The handles were a beautiful dark wood with Millie’s full name engraved onto the handles.

“YEE FUCKING HAW Check out these kick ass knives the prince got me!” Millie shouted as she held the knives close to Moxxie for him to inspect.

“The prince got us season tickets for the Morningstar Theater and reserved us our own box!” Moxxie shouted, barely able to contain his own excitement.

While the two imps celebrated and enjoyed their gifts, Stolas stood nearby smiling softly at the sounds of jubilation coming from inside. A small chuckle escaped his beak that quickly turned to coughing and groaning as the pain of his injuries caught up to him. Wordlessly, the Goetia opened a portal back to his quarters in the palace and walked through. As he eased himself onto his mattress for some much needed rest he pulled out his phone and stared at the lock screen, as if trying to force it to ring by sheer will alone. After an agonizing wait the phone lit up as a call was coming in. Stolas nearly dropped the phone before taking a deep breath and answering it.

“H-Hello?” Stolas answered

“Uh…greetings your highness.” Moxxie’s voice stuttered through the phone’s speakers. Stolas could hear some raucous sounds coming from the background. “I wanted to thank you for your generous gifts you had dropped off. You can probably hear that Millie is enjoying the gift you got her.” Moxxie said with a chuckle.

“Please, call me Stolas. Those gifts were the least I could do for you after you came to my rescue. I’m pleased to hear that Millie is enjoying them.”

“I also saw your note about the upcoming production of Phantom of the Opera. We would love to have you join us your high- I mean Stolas.” Moxxie said, correcting himself.

Stolas’ eyes went misty slightly as he held the phone to his ear. “I would be honored to join you, my friend.”
