Summary
In the handful of years since [spoilers], it's obvious to Kabru that his friend is unhappy. Despite the brave face Laios attempts to wear. They had all been at their respective roles long enough to form a routine. Now, staring down the looming reality of living out the rest of their days in this way, Kabru takes it upon himself to cheer Laios up. How? The only way he knows how: talking about people.

Kabru’s second try at a smile was genuine. Almost dopey at the unadulterated joy on Laios’ face. This was what Kabru was trying to do, the thing that made all his prior foolishness worthwhile. If he could give Laios this happiness, he would put up with all the embarrassment in the world. And wasn’t that a thought.
“I really am glad. I know all of the nuances can be confusing and frustrating, but it’s the sheer complexity of the way people act that’s fascinating to me. I think it’s very rewarding to work through the puzzle in order to see the bigger picture. Maybe in time you could feel the same way,” Kabru spoke softly, feeling oddly buoyant.
“I’d like that, I think,” Laios returned a dopey smile of his own.
