Summary
Amongst the many ways of celebrating a new monarch, none is quite so popular as a tourney. For Rhaenyra it is not only a chance to show her appreciation for her own family but to unify the Houses under the crown once more, forging connections and good-will where, perhaps, there was seldom any to be found in the past: By allowing various lords and ladies to declare themselves for one participant, to support them and to lend them their favours should the knight accept and vie for their attentions in the week the tourney.
Aemond Targaryen has never seen the appeal of tourneys before. This one, with his uncle Daemon and nephew Jacaerys as fellow participants, gives him the opportunity to grind their faces in the dirt. He does not care about anything else and no one would declare him their chosen anyways.
That is until Aegon Targaryen leaves the entirety of court speechless the night before the tourney, declaring himself for none other than his brother.
