Work Text:

Damian walked down the streets of Gotham. He said to Father that he wanted to go for a walk after school. He came home first so that Father saw that he was okay, and then after getting changed, Damian left.

Gotham was a bit boring when the sun was still up. Not enough criminals came out during the day, but if they did, the police would deal with it. Since the bats only worked at night and not during the day.

Damian decided that his walk would take him to the park. Where kids were on the playground or the basketball court playing and parents sat by and watched. Damian never understood why parents always had to watch their kids. Have they not raised their children to be responsible at a young age?

Ignoring that odd behaviour that Gotham always seemed to offer, Damian walked to a more isolated area of the park where he could take in the scenery and remember it for a painting later on. It would be a piece with lots of green. Green leaves on the dark brown oak logs, with dark green grass surrounding the area. It would be a beautiful piece that Damian was looking forward to starting, and as always, he was interested in how his masterpiece would turn out in the end.

“Hey, Kid!”

Damian was pulled out of his thoughts by a man in a green jacket and black pants walking towards him.

“You alone?” the man asked.

“Of course. I don't need supervision, unlike the other people here,” Damian told him.

“You do seem like a smart kid,” the man pointed out, “I'm guessing you are also smart with animals.”

Damian perked up at the mention of animals.

“I love animals,” Damian said.

“That's good. You see, I have a puppy in my car. She is only young and has never been in a park before. She is a little scared. Since you have knowledge of animals, I was wondering if you could come down to my car and help me with her?” the man requested.

“Of course, I’ll help.”

Damian followed the man down the park and further away from the other people. Which made sense if the puppy was only young. She may not enjoy strangers, which Damian could also agree on. He didn’t like strangers, but he would help them if they needed help like now.

They arrived at the road but there was only a white van.

“This is my car. The dog is in the back. She is just scared and needs someone new in there to get her comfortable. Why don’t you get in the back and comfort her,” the man suggested.

“I can do that,” Damian said. He was always happy to help animals in any way he could.

But when the man opened the van’s sliding door, Damian knew something was up.The van was dark inside, but right away, he saw there was no puppy inside.

“I don’t think you need my assistance,” Damian told him, taking a step away from the man and van.

Instead of letting Damian go, the man grabbed a hold of Damian’s wrist. He winced at the feeling. It didn’t hurt that badly, but with how tight the man held, Damian knew it would leave a bruise.

He struggled against the grip. Even though he is a trained assassin and Robin, he was still a kid. A kid that could be easily overpowered by an adult.

He didn't want to help this man anymore. It seems he wanted Damian to go somewhere with him, and it had to do with more than helping an animal.

He was being dragged closer and closer to the van until a female voice called out.

“Oh, thank goodness! You found my son!”

The man and Damian stopped and turned to look. A woman in black high heels, black leggings, and a black leather jacket that was zipped up but not enough because her cleavage was showing. It also proved that she wasn't wearing anything else under the leather jacket.

As she got closer, Damian knew who she was right away. Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, is also known as Bruce Wayne's girlfriend. Damian doesn’t really meet her out of Catwoman, but right now, he doesn't care. He was grateful that she was here to help him.

Selina ran up to him and dropped to her knees. She pulled Damian away from the man holding him, but he got pulled into a hug by her instead. His head rested on her neck, and Damian couldn’t help but hide his face more into her shoulder. The relief of finally being safe from what just happened made Damian tear up a bit.

“Thank you for finding my son. He likes to wander sometimes, and I was just so worried,” Selina.

Damian didn’t have to look at the man to know he was panicking.

“That's okay. I'm just happy to help.” With that, he got into his van and started to drive off.

Selina pushed Damian off of her, and Damian couldn’t help but feel a bit hurt at the action, but it wasn’t what he thought. Instead of walking away, Selina pulled a phone out of her cleavage and took multiple photos of the van before it was out of sight. Once it was out of sight, Selina put the phone back down her shirt and pulled Damian back into a hug.

“It's okay, Kitten. I have to ask, did he touch you anywhere?” Selina asked.

Damian was the one to pull away this time, but it was only just to lift up his arm to show her his wrist that was already becoming discoloured. He let out a sniff and a small hiccup.

“He just grabbed my wrist,” Damian explained.

Selina seemed to let out a sigh, but it sounded like one of relief, and Damian didn’t know why.  She reached forward and placed a hand on Damian's cheek, coursing him to lean into the touch.

“Is Bruce or one of your brothers around?” Selina asked, looking around the area.

Damian shook his head.

“Father said that I could go on a walk alone. So, I went to the park,” Damian explained.

Selina pushed her lips together.

“Oh, well, let's get you home. Are you okay walking back with me to the manor?” Selina asked.

Damian nodded.

Selina got off the ground and held her hand out, giving Damian the opportunity to hold it if he wanted to, and that's what he did. With that, they walked back to the manor, where Damian knew he would be safe.

As they got closer to the manor, Damian just wanted to let go of Selina's hand and run straight inside into the protected arms of his father's but he knew the best thing to do was wait until they were actually inside.

Once Selina opened that front door, Damian let go of her hand and called out.

“FATHER!”

He heard the heavy, loud footsteps of his father running towards him, and once he was in sight, Damian went straight to him. His father reacted on instinct alone and lifted Damian up into his arms and pushed him against his chest.

“What happened, baby, and why is Selina here?” His father asked.

“Well,” Selina started, “I found Damian on the edge of the park about to be kidnapped. I got photos of the van, and Damian has a bruised wrist. The kidnapper didn't harm him in any other way.”

“Thank God,” Father said. He pressed his lips against Damian's forehead and gave him a kiss.

“But what were you doing at the park?”

“You said I could go for a walk,” Damian said, his voice a bit muffled since his face was pushed against his father's clothing.

“I thought you meant around the manor grounds,” his father said.

“I'm sorry, I almost got kidnapped. The man said he needed help with his puppy in his car. I thought I would be helping,” Damian explained.

“It's okay,” Father told him, “but it seems we may need to have a talk about stranger danger and different types of kidnapping tricks people do. That can all happen another day, though.”

Damian snuggled up against his father. Kind of just wanting to sleep. He heard Father and Selina share a kiss and Father thanking her, but Damian didn't know what else happened. The adrenaline had worn off now and he was feeling safe. He was just so exhausted and a little sore. Knowing that he was safe in his Father's arms and Selina around made it easier for Damian to fall asleep.
