Everything was falling apart.
Nobody believed in fai like they used to. No one seemed to even remember how to wish away their worries.
Jareth stared out the window, his kingdom was falling apart. Slowly, everything and everyone was fading his loyal subjects got weaker and were dying off at an alarming rate. Jareth couldn't bring himself to care anymore.
When it began at the turn of the century, he had scrambled searching, and searching for mortals to play with, anyone who could sustain him. Now it was far too much of a hassle to expend any power.
Besides even if he did find someone and was able to get them to run is Labyrinth, what was to say they wouldn't best him? Hell, with how everything crumbled and withered away all the human would have to do is press a palm to walls and watch as they turned to dust. The way clear in a matter of minutes.
Sarah, Sarah Conners. That was the name of the last mortal to enter his realm, the name of the human who fearlessly beat his Labyrinth and cast him aside. Jareth hadn't lied when he said he'd do anything for her. He had to. His magic wouldn't work without her energy to maintain it. How could anyone resist the allure of power? How could anyone resist him? If a young innocent maiden could defeat him, then Jareth found no hope in trying again.
He was old and useless in the new world the humans created. A relic of fantasy that no longer had a right to exist in this modern age. So Jareth decided to let everything fade and fall. Being content in his numbness.
