When Soap heard the task force he will be joining included none other than the Ghost, he got excited. Everyone in the SAS knows that name, and everyone learned to fear it. Ghost is big, intimidating, an enigma. Soap finds him fascinating.
He feels a pull towards the man, wants to spend more time with him, learn more. Over time the illusion of the scary Ghost get broken. Ghost isn’t that scary and mysterious off the battlefield. He’s just a bloke.
He doesn’t like bell peppers, he enjoys sitcoms, he gets dry eyes from allergies in spring. Ghost isn’t that mystery everyone is so scared of, he’s just a guy and that’s how Soap starts to develop a little crush. Those mundane things felt so much more important with Ghost.
Seeing someone sneeze is nothing special, but with Ghost it feels like a crack in that, arguably, thin hard shell. And that’s how Soap felt whenever he spent time with Ghost, and he saw just a snippet of that normal man hiding behind the mask on his face.
Soap felt special around Ghost. Although his Lieutenant is a lot more open and social with the team than anyone expects, he’s still more open with Soap, and that makes him giddy. After more and more touches and secrets, Soap thought that maybe his crush isn’t that one-sided.
One night the 141 sit in the common room enjoying each other’s company. Their team is nice, Soap is glad they all get along so good. They talk about their upcoming leave and their plans for the entire month they get. Price visits his mother and son in Hereford.
His teenage son lives with his grandmother after they had some problems with his mum. Gaz will be visiting his family in London. His sister is about to turn 6 and growing up way too fast for anyone's liking.
Soap will visit his parents in Glasgow and help with the farm during this crucial time of year. He will be still working, but he likes the farm work a lot. „What about you, Lt? Any plans for the summer?“ Soap asks, nudging Ghost with his elbow.
Ghost smirks a bit under the mask, and it makes the butterflies in Soap‘s stomach go wild.
„The missus wants to take the kids to Italy, guess I‘m going too“
Soap blinks. Then does it again, trying to realise what his Lieutenant just said.
Missus? Kids? Soap feels sick all of a sudden. The fuzzy happy feeling gone in the matter of seconds. All those moments he thought Ghost showed interest in his vanish from his memory. He’s married with kids. Soap feels bad that he even imagined being with his Lieutenant.
He was so close to ruining the life of an entire family. He just wants to leave now. Go blow some shit up or fire all the ammo he has into some wall. He just can’t sit any longer next to Simon.
