Tommy was not scared of Dream anymore.
Feeling stronger from the past few months of healing, Tommy had muscle after moving horse tack, chopping wood and feeding the animals beside Techno and Phil. Tommy didn't hold back any punches as Dream tried to stand over him. Dream caught his attacks but Tommy swiftly threw another. He wasn't going to freeze up. He refused to lose mentally before he'd given it a proper go physically.
Tommy twisted and landed on his knees to force Dream into an awkward position. Imagining the voices swirling around him to cheer him on Tommy kicked out Dream's knee and sent him into the snow. Pulling Dream's arm out he pinned him and snarled. "I'm not your puppet anymore Dream. You don't own me."
Dream laughed. "You seriously think you're past this-" He grabbed Tommy's shirt with his free hand and pulled him down. "A few months of hiding doesn't change your time in exile." He hissed into Tommy's face. "You're not in control."
Tommy glared into the eyes of Dream's mask. The man had both hands occupied so there was no concealed weapon. He seriously believed Tommy would crumble on his own volition. Tommy held his ground and didn't move.
Dream didn't know about the swap. He didn't know that Tommy had healed his nervous system. Maybe before if Tommy had been in the same situation he would've trembled and caved at Dream's ire. He might've let go and stepped back with apologies falling from his tongue but that wasn't who he was now.
Tommy hadn't been hiding and he wasn't backing down now. He'd seen the real Dream. The man capable of respect and decency. The bastard chose to make Tommy's life a living hell.
Too bad the boy had the confidence of a piglin.
Tommy leaned in meeting no resistance. "You disgust me Dream." He whispered. "You're a pathetic man who thinks he's immortal."
Tommy grabbed Dream's wrist gaining control of the hand gripping his shirt.
"I can't believe for even a moment I thought you were right." Tommy ripped Dream's hand away and pinned it to his chest. "Leave me alone." He snarled. "That's a warning cause next time I'll have a knife reserved for your twisted heart."
Dream scoffed still not concerned. Tommy smiled knowing the man was just protecting his image. Dream would be furious when he had a moment to realise Tommy was detached from him.
The sound of a door slamming open made Tommy tilt his head.
His family had finally seen them from the window.
Tommy pushed off from Dream and stood over him.
Dream watched Techno and Phil race across the snow with venom in their eyes. "Techno!" He called out. "Are you seeing this?!"
Technoblade's eyes narrowed. "Unfortunately." He snarled.
Dream pointed to Tommy. "The kid attacked me-!"
"As he ought to." Techno interrupted the man's pathetic display of 'victim'. "Tommy's been with me for months now. You seriously think I haven't heard your crimes?"
"What crimes?!" Dream spluttered.
Techno stepped forward with bristled fur. Tommy bet his Chat was whispering all the gruesome ways to tear him apart.
"I can't believe you'd listen to that boy's stories! You know how he lies! How he manipulated you from the start! You and I are-"
"Don't you dare say friends Dream because you know we've never been." Techno warned.
Tommy's eyes widened.
"Get off my property." Techno snarled. "I'll kill you on sight if I ever see you again and if Tommy even breaths wrong like he's witnessed you lurking on my borders I'll hunt you down and gut you."
Dream backpedaled across the snow looking shocked. "What? Techno I-"
Techno stormed forward and Dream was on his feet in a second holding his fists up.
"You're mad Techno. That boy hasn't done a single good thing by you. Why are you helping him?!"
A blur of black feathers and fabric rushed past Techno. Tommy watched Phil land on Dream like a bird of prey, his wings spread above him.
"You had two people give you mercy Dream!" Phil screeched digging his talons in. "I don't have the same patience!"
Tommy watched Dream fight for his life as Phil grabbed him by the shoulders and leaped into the air. His wings weren't strong enough for flight but they still worked perfectly for spinning in the air and hurtling Dream into the ground outside of their borders.
Dream gasped as he lifted his head. Turning to check where Phil was the avian was slowly flapping to the ground with a glare on him.
Dream got to his feet shakily. Swaying he gripped his bleeding shoulder.
"Why are you defending him?! What's got into you two?!" He shouted.
Tommy stepped forward. "Geez you're really thick headed aren't you Dream?! Back off! Go home!"
Dream snarled. "You may have bodyguards now Tommy but that's not going to save you!"
"I don't need them!" Tommy yelled. "God Dream don't you get it? I'm not scared of you anymore!"
Dream laughed maniacally. "Yes you are! Tommy you're never going to break free from me! We've been fighting for years now and we'll continue until one of us is dead!"
Tommy paused and scoffed.
"Techno?" He turned to him.
Techno easily unsheathed his sword and passed it to him.
Tommy turned to Dream. "Until one of us is dead, huh Dream?"
Dream tensed searching Tommy's expression.
"I can do that." Tommy moved forward with his weapon ready.
"Wait." Dream straightened. "You're not seriously going to try that Tommy. You know what happened last time!"
"I didn't finish the job." Tommy grinned. "This time I won't make the same mistake."
Dream took a step back then seemed to realise what he'd done. He shook his head as Tommy closed the distance between them. "You don't scare me! I'm stronger than you!"
Tommy laughed. Interesting that Dream said that... it was almost like he was trying to convince himself.
Tommy swung the sword and Dream dodged.
"Tommy!" He shouted like he could command him to stop. "Tommy knock it off!"
Tommy aimed for his face and got blocked by Dream's sword.
Tommy stepped into his weapon and forced Dream's arms to lock.
"You know Dream..." Tommy smiled. "I never liked you-" He slid his sword across Dream's and watched it hit the man's mask. It cracked and for the first time Tommy could see one of his eyes.
Tommy met his gaze head on and glared.
Dream's eye widened. "You-"
"I've really had enough of you Dream." Tommy stepped forward for another attack.
Dream dodged and held up his sword. "What happened to you?" He asked as if it was starting to sink in.
Tommy smiled. Dream would never know what Techno and him had been through.
"Get out of my life." He said throwing a swing.
Dream stepped back and then he kept retreating. Watching Tommy's face for any signs of the boy he used to be Tommy followed him with his weapon ready and something finally clicked.
Dream turned and pulled out his trident. Flying to the nether portal Tommy paused and watched him go.
He was finally gone...
Good riddance.
