Meet my parents (they are weird) [JJK AU]

Summary:

"Who is it, do I know him?"

Satoru lowered his head by bending forward, his piercing blue eyes meeting Megumi's own. Not that he ever feared or even flinched at his father's antics.

"He is like, one of the most popular dudes in school? You'll see."

"Alright, just remember, even us teachers keep a bit of track on our students... how'd you manage to pull that off? Get together with one of the popular dudes at school?"

"How'd you manage to have Suguru fall for you?"

-----

Chapter Text

"Dad. I have a boyfriend."

Satoru nearly messed up the sheets in front of him from how fast he whipped his head around. His son had already turned to leave the kitchen again, stilling when his father turned around.

"What?"

Megumi asked in exhaustion, already on the verge of regret about his casual outing. He had his hands buried in his dark pants, his lip twitching upwards in irritation.

"What do you mean, 'what'? That was a surprisingly huge thing to just drop on me."

Satoru complained, the paper he had to grade currently forgotten while he stood, towering above his son. The height difference didn't intimidate Megumi, and he crossed his arms.

"Hm... it's not that much of a thing, though. I'm sixteen. I'm a teenager."

"Fair. Still, what the fuck? You never tell me anything, usually. And you're always remote, Tsumiki told me. Surprises me that you found somebody."

Satoru didn't notice how rude his words sounded, and Megumi gritted his teeth, the actual regret setting in.

"Thanks." He muttered sarcastically. "You proved me right once again, about why I don't tell you about my personal life. I'm not that shy. Or aloof. Whatever."

"If you say so. Who is it, do I know him?"

Satoru lowered his head by bending forwards, his piercing blue eyes meeting Megumi's. Not that he ever feared or even flinched at his father's antics.

"He is like, one of the most popular dudes in school? You'll see."

"Alright, just remember even us teachers keep a bit of track on our students... how'd you manage to pull that off? Get together with one of the popular dudes at school?"

"How'd you manage to have Suguru fall for you?"

Megumi countered, and Satoru winced.

"I was the popular one! He managed to make me fall for him, not the other way round."

The pale-haired man tried to explain, frowning. From the doorframe, he heard an amused hum.

"I beg to differ. You were the one who tried reaching out for my hand - and chickening out again, like six times, was it? Popular, but a coward."

Suguru caught the pen that was flung into his direction mid-air, grinning brightly at the two people in their kitchen.

"Why are you torturing Megumi with our old dating stories?"

The man asked curiously, stepping into the kitchen and leaning against the counter. His husband turned around, all bright-eyes.

"Because.... our gay agenda worked!! He's got a boyfriend..."

Satoru sang, and Megumi scrunched his nose up in disgust.

"I'm bi. Just so you know. And the gay agenda is a right-wing conspiracy theory."

Megumi groaned, and his father ruffled his hair.

"I know, sweet summer child. I was joking. Good to know you are bi..." His ocean eyes widened for a second. "... bi the way." He added, throwing two finger guns at his son with a wide grin. Megumi winced at the pure cringe that radiated from his dad.

Suguru nodded, better at staying serious, and patted his husband's shoulder.

"Calm down, 'toru..." Towards Megumi, he curiously stretched his chin forward. "What's his name? Is he in Satoru's class, too?"

"Yuji. He's cool. You'd like him. And... yeah. He is."

The dark-haired man nodded slowly and turned to think for a bit, while Megumi enjoyed how his older dad's jaw fell. So, the boyfriend was one of his own students. And one of his favourites, at that, even though teachers weren't supposed to pick favourites. Before Satoru could restore his facial expression, Suguru spoke up.

"Why don't you bring him here? I think we'd enjoy meeting him." With a glance at Satoru, he added: "Unless we're too embarrassing, I would fully get that."

Megumi pondered the offer, giving a doubtful glance at his older father, who smirked while leaning against the counter. He had sought proximity to Suguru the minute he'd entered the kitchen, Megumi noticed. Had it not been his own parents, he would have labelled this behaviour as cute.

"Well. I think he'd be okay with meeting you. If you can keep him..." He nodded over towards Satoru with his chin. "... in check? Then yeah, why not."

Suguru nodded, staring at his husband with a hopeless hum.

"I'll try my best. But it'd be great to have him here."

He reassured. Megumi nodded.

"I'll tell him he's invited, alright? Then he can decide himself."

"Don't talk too badly to him about us... about me, anyway. In case of Satoru, just go for the throat."

Suguru gave a thumbs up, evading the elbow that tried to hit his ribs by stepping forward. Megumi hummed, apparently pleased, and left the kitchen behind.

"If he goes around talking shit about me, the kids would lose their respect for me..."

He whined, still bracing against the counter. Suguru scoffed, turning further to the side until he could lean forward and cage Satoru against the counter.

"Nobody even knows you're his dad. Except Yuji, probably. Well, he will notice when he meets us, anyway. But you don't share your last name, and I don't think Megumi's the type to go around telling half the school about his parents."

"Hm-hm. Still... don't encourage him to talk badly about me."

Satoru pouted, his back bending while Suguru leaned in. Eventually, he resigned and allowed his husband to peck his lips.

"Sorry, 'toru."

The younger man whispered huskily, a yelp leaving his lips when Satoru threw his arms around his shoulders. Even though Satoru looked lankier, he was not the weaker one, and utilised his strength to flip their positions. With satisfaction, he noticed the red tint on Suguru's nose while he locked the shorter man in against the counter.

"Apology accepted. I'd love to be distracted by you, but I gotta grade twenty more exams till tomorrow."

He whispered, bringing their foreheads together. Suguru's palm brushed through the short white hair on his nape, caressing the skin underneath.

"You seem very distracted. Need a coffee?"

Satoru's eyes fell shut and he nodded.

"Definetly. Will you prepare it for me?"

"Sure. Go to work, I don't want you to break your deadlines. Teachers should be good examples."

Suguru reminded him, and left a kiss on his cheek. His husband left for the table, picking his red pen up again to continue his work. Behind him, Suguru rummaged through their cupboards, a soothing sound, and a few minutes later, he placed the mug of coffee in front of Satoru.

"Thanks."

He hummed, and Suguru nodded, stealing a glance at the papers. Satoru snapped his fingers in front of his nose.

"Oi! No cheating. You don't get an advantage on our competition."

Suguru chuckled.

"I don't get your physics, anyway."

"And I don't get your philosophy. At least physics doesn't take as long to grade, you should've seen the amount of pages my kids wrote for their history exam... it's insane."

He muttered, going through the paper in front of him, using the red marker from time to time.

"Yeah. They have a lot to say, sometimes."

Suguru agreed, focused on his husband with his work. Both of them worked as teachers, but not at the same school, and due to their competitive natures, they had quickly fallen into a spiral of seeing whose school would get better grade overall, and who was the better teacher. While Satoru taught the strange combination of physics and history, Suguru had settled for literature and philosophy. Both had kept their respective last names in marriage to not be traceable.

"So..." Suguru began anew. "What do we say to our son having a boyfriend? Do you know him?"

The white-haired teacher blinked.

"Hm? What are we supposed to say? He's sixteen... he can go and have boy- and girlfriends however he wants to." He shrugged. "Yuji seems like a good kid. He's one of my favourites in class, not the brightest, but he's athletic and popular. Good with people."

"Babe, we're not supposed to have favourites... do you think he makes Megumi happy?"

"We all have favourites, I'm just the only one brave enough to say it out loud." Satoru defended himself. "Yuji is sweet, so I guess? We'll see. If he brings him home."

With a nod, his husband agreed and placed his chin into his palm, quietly staring at the other while he graded the exams.

_____

The next day, Megumi stuck to his promise to invite Yuji into his home. After class, he stuck around, nodding at the pink-haired boy.

"Itadori."

He muttered.

"Yeah? What's up?"

His friend hummed, tilting his head. Their best friend, Nobara, leaned against the wall, raising a brow.

"You gonna get disgusting? Cause I wanna leave, then, so please tell me beforehand."

She voiced, and Megumi scrunched his nose up once again. Nobara had easily adapted to her two besties hitting it off, and they still spent most of their time together. Studying, watching movies, forcing Megumi to visit the mall or some gaming centres with them. It was fun. And the fact that she could tease them now, was a thing that Nobara enjoyed greatly.

"Nah, don't worry. Fushiguro is a responsible friend, isn't he? And he wanted to tell us... what exactly?"

Yuji questioned, his amber eyes scanning the room, a little unfocused today. With a sigh, Megumi crossed his arms, leaning against the wall next to Kugasaki.

"It's not that important. But my parents invited you to our home."

The way Yuji's expression lit up was unexpected, and had he controlled himself a second slower, Megumi would've grinned. He didn't though, and stared at him apathetically.

"What do you say, do you want to visit?"

"Yeah! Of course I do!! That's so cool of them, what did they say to your outing?"

The teenager asked, and Nobara listened closely.

"Nothing much. They're fine with you, I suppose? It was a little awkward."

Nobara chuckled, elbowing Megumi softly.

"Probably because of you..."

The ravenhead groaned, elbowing back at her.

"You don't know how damn cringe my dad can be...."

He mumbled, closing his eyes. Suddenly, Megumi remembered that Yuji didn't have parents anymore, and that, maybe, he should complain a little less. In any case, Yuji seemed incredibly joyful about the invitation.

"I'm glad it worked out, anyway. Just, uh. Before things get awkward..."

"... they already are..."

Nobara whispered with a shit-eating grin. Yuji chuckled, standing in front of his friends.

"Yeah? What's the matter?"

"You know my dad already."

Yuji raised a brow.

"I do? Is he a celebrity or something?"

Next to him, Nobara's curiosity had been sparked, and she twisted, staring at Megumi.

"Oh, my... I knew it!! That's why you pretend to be so mysterious, isn't it??"

The girl stared, her chocolate eyes wide and excited.

"Who is it?"

Megumi's exhaustion grew, and he raised his hand, deflecting her accusations.

"No. He's not a celeb. Yuji, my dad's our homeroom teacher. Don't ask questions, please don't tell the whole school."

The ravenhead glanced at Nobara during the last part. Yuji stood there, his nose wrinkled in confusion while he pondered what Megumi had just told him.

"Nah. That can't be, you don't have the same name."

The boy decided and shook his head.

"We'd have known. And children usually carry the same last name as their parents. Unless you chose your mom's name?"

In disbelief, Megumi stared at his boyfriend. Sometimes, the stupidity could be overwhelming, and today was one of those instances.

"Itadori. I was adopted. When I was like, five years old, it was all a bit messy, so my dads didn't change the documents - and honestly, it's better like that. It's my bio-dad's name."

He could see the gears work behind Yuji's eyes, and both Nobara and Megumi could tell when the realisation had hit in the soft spark that jumped through Yuji's eyes.

"Ooooh... okay. Now it makes sense. I won't tell anybody, pinky promise."

Yuji smiled, holding his pinky up. Nobara shrugged.

"Can't promise. Sorry."

The girl smirked, raising her hands. Megumi glared.

"Now that you've been warned, do you still want to meet my parents?"

Once again, Yuji didn't take long to answer.

"Yes, duh! I like our teacher, and if your parents want to meet me, I'm more than happy to meet them. Do I need to dress up?"

"Nah. I don't think so. I'll ask beforehand."

Yuji seemed happy with that, and the topic was completed. With one of his signature grins, he left for the door.

"Let's go, I thought we wanted to get waffles today? Then Fushiguro explains maths to us, that was the plan, right?"

With a grim stare, Megumi pushed himself off the wall, following Yuji.

"Yeah... but I won't do your whole homework again! Neither yours, Kugisaki. Stop doing your puppy eyes, they don't work on me."

He huffed, and the trio stepped out into the sunlight.

______

At their home, Satoru's phone buzzed. With a tiny frown, he paused stirring his curry, and glanced over. On the screen, it showed Megumi's name.

Emo summer child, 4:32 pm: He wants to visit.

The man hummed, quickly typing a reply.

Dad, 4:33 pm: Cool. Is Sunday okay? Then he could come over for lunch and you'd still have the day to yourselves, afterwards...

His son replied with a thumbs up, and Satoru lost interest in his phone. From behind, he heard Suguru enter their kitchen area, but pretended not to have heard him. When his arms enveloped his waist, he couldn't keep ignoring him, and grinned.

"To what do I owe the pleasure of your attention?"

He purred, leaning the tiniest bit into the embrace. Both because it was enjoyable, and because he didn't plan on falling into the stove.

"Sudden marital bliss. And the fact that the holidays start in less than two weeks."

"Which means that we should be working on the kids' grades, shouldn't we?"

Satoru muttered, leaning even farther against his husband's chest.

"Possibly. I'm nearly done with them, though. What about you?"

"... I kinda didn't start yet."

Suguru sighed against his neck, nuzzling his nose against the crook of it.

"You're an idiot. You know that this will stress you out, or need I remind you? In two days, when you realise that, oopsie, you still gotta give grades to a hundred moody teenagers."

There was a low-pitched whine when Satoru closed his eyes and pouted.

"A hundred and thirty two, and some of them have both history and physics with me..."

He mumbled.

"Just proves my point, dumbass."

Suguru reminded him, the breathing tickling his shoulder. One of his hands came to rest against his hip bone, thumbing the lines through his shirt. With a self-assured grin, Suguru witnessed how his husband's eyes fell shut at the touch.

"Yeah... You are sabotaging me, though..."

Satoru complained, poking the back of Suguru's hand on his hip.

"Just to win our battle..."

Once again, he pouted, and Suguru chuckled, pressing a line of kisses along his shoulders.

"Only to win our competition, indeed. Gotta make use of any advantage, whenever I can."

"That's cheating."

He grumbled, and Suguru's laugh vibrated against his neck.

"What're you gonna do about it..."

The shorter man hummed, pecking Satoru's shoulder. His husband smiled and inhaled.

"By the way, Megumi texted me. He'll bring Yuji here on Sunday."

Behind him, Suguru straightened his back and stared at the other teacher.

"Oooh. Exciting news, isn't it?"

Satoru shrugged, resuming his stirring.

"Why is it you look suspiciously unhappy?"

Suguru let go of him, in favour of binding his long hair into a ponytail. The way his heart still skipped a beat at the sight irritated Satoru merely the tiniest bit.

"Nothing. This just means we're old."

For a moment, Suguru wondered if he was joking, and when Satoru continued with the sulky look, he grinned awkwardly.

"We're barely forty, honey... that's not old."

"I'm thirty-eight. That's basically a grandpa."

"That's not even properly middle-aged. Stop being dramatic."

"I don't need to be dramatic when I am really that old already. Where has my youth gone?"

"You're not old. And even if you were, what's so horrible about it?"

Satoru turned the stove off and shrugged.

"I don't know. Wrinkles? Hair falling off? Your body going to shit? Alzheimers?"

A disbelieving chuckle from his side, and he glared at Suguru.

"What? That's not funny."

"Only a little. I'll love you with wrinkles and Alzheimers, though."

"Yeah. Same with you. But still, I ain't keen on it."

"As I said. You're not old yet. And we'll grow old together, if that helps. Remember, we even made a vow."

"Hmph. I'm still older than you."

Suguru rolled his eyes and shook his head simultaneously, the ponytail swaying in his neck.

"By a year! Stop being dumb, now."

"I'm not dumb."

"Stop playing dumb, then."

Satoru grimaced, stretching onto his tip-toes to reach for the cupboard and pull out some plates.

"Fineeee... Is Tsumiki home already? Cause dinner's ready."

"I haven't heard her yet..."

He hummed. Right in this moment, they heard a key turn at the front door, and Satoru fingergunned at his husband.

"Speaking of the devil ~"

The man sang and ladeled the dish on three plates, aware that Megumi had his study afternoon today.

"Hey, sweetie!! Dinner's ready, if you want some!"

He hollered out to his daughter, who waved after hanging her bag up on the wardrobe.

"Give me five minutes!"

She shouted back, smiling at Suguru who had come to greet her, standing in the doorframe.

"Just gotta change out of my uniform. You'd think he would get that idea himself, huh?"

There was a grin on Tsumiki's face before she turned around, hasting to her room to change. Satoru scrunched his nose up.

"Of course I understand that... I just forgot."

"Hmm... maybe the Alzheimers is showing already, 'toru?"

There was a smirk on Suguru's expression while he teased, pushing Satoru's middle finger down when his husband raised it at him in response.

"No insults while the kids are home, babe..."

Suguru reprimanded fondly.

"As if they don't know this one..."

"You should be a better example. How the hell do you function at school?"

"My students like me!"

"Yeah, cause your lessons are easy."

The shorter man teased, tenderly squeezing his shoulder.

"My lessons are great and interesting! You're the one who is boring them with what the author meant by speaking of blue curtains..."

"Hey! Literature is more than that. You scientists are too dense to see that, uncreative prick."

"Not in front of the children!"

Satoru mimicked Suguru's tone from before, giggling to himself. Without either of them noticing, Tsumiki had entered the kitchen.

"I like literature. Far more than physics, most students would choose lit over physics."

Their daughter's voice filled the kitchen, and she stalked over to grab a plate from the kitchen counter, moving to the table. Her fathers followed the example.

"You're teaming up on me. Two versus one is unfair..."

Satoru grumbled, digging into his curry. With a small eyeroll, Tsumiki shook her head.

"Just telling you the hard truth. Heads up, students still like history." She hummed. "Anyway, should I stay or leave on Sunday?"

Her father stared at her, brows furrowed.

"What?"

"When Megumi brings home his friend? Should I stay or not? I kind of planned to visit the lake with Ara, but if you want me to stay for family time, I'd obviously reschedule."

Satoru needed a second to regain his thoughts, slowly nodding.

"You know about Yuji?"

The girl snorted.

"Yeah, of course I know! I was the one who encouraged Megumi to tell you... why else did you think he let you know?"

She deadpanned, focusing on her dinner while her parents exchanged a look.

"Anyway, family time or not?"

Suguru shrugged, leaning his chin into his palm.

"If you already have plans, that's alright with me. I won't force you to stay here. Unless you want to meet him? It's up to you, or what do you say, Satoru?"

The white-haired man raised his hands.

"You do you, Tsu. Whatever you prefer. Just let Megumi know, I suppose?"

She nodded, her brown bangs swaying.

"Alright. Then that's settled."

"Yup. Wanna tell me what you did in school today?"

"Huh? Yeah, sure. Not much. We watched a movie in English Lit, cause the curriculum is done, and then did some yoga for P.E. I was allowed to lead the lesson today, and I think it was well prepared. Though, the gym was insanely warm."

She explained, going on about her day. Suguru leaned back in his chair and listened to the two of them banter, smiling at the way Tsumiki moved her arms around while she explained just how stupid one of the boys in her class had acted around her best friend.
