Flaky actually survives her little ski accident

Summary:

In “Ski Ya, Wouldn’t Wanna Be Ya”, Flaky dies when trying to escape an avalanche.
All because Disco Bear had a fence.
What if Flaky DID survive?
Let’s see how it’d go, then!

Notes:

I felt bad for Flaky during the original episode, so I made this.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The cold wind of the mountain flies through the air, the quiet only interrupted by the howls of the air’s screams the higher up one goes.

Near the ground, a more feminine scream is heard, one coming from a red porcupine, who was skiing down from the highest mountain in all of the forest: a mound of snow.

Within 4 seconds, Flaky’s descent was over, her screaming quieting down to panicked, yet slowly calming breathing at the realization at her now being on the ground. Safe, away from any ledges and-

“INCOMING!” The sound of someone trying to be “retro” tells this, before a yellow blur nearly bumps into Flaky, only slowing down because of both Flaky sliding back in fright, and the perpetrator turning to stop in his tracks.

”Sorry, babydoll. You and I know that keeping your eyes open is a must in this place.” The one who nearly skid into Flaky, and possibly send them down a ledge to fall to their demise by either being impaled by rocks or be eaten by animals, was none other than her “favorite” bear that just wants to get in her pants: Disco Bear.

”H-hello Disco Bear.” Flaky says this, using her poles to slide away from Disco Bear, knowing he was just desperate for a girl, specifically her friends.

”Say, babydoll, how ‘bout you and I go to my cabin when I’m done chatting with my soon-to-be girlfriends?” Disco Bear says this, eyeing someone past Flaky, before skiing past her, nearly running into her.

Flaky gives a small, stared shriek, sliding back just in time to avoid becoming ski kill. However, before her momentum slows down to a full halt, she feels a sudden weight on her neck, before she feels herself being lifted into the air.

Flaky tries to see what was causing it, trying to take off her own scarf, but was surprised to see her scarf stuck on a ski lift hand rail, desperately trying to get on it so she could breath.

One attempt was a miss, the second was a slippery one, and the third one was the charm. In the third attempt, she managed to grab onto the seat itself, pulling herself onto the ski lift desperately. Now on it, she untied the scarf from the hand rail, breathing in deep breaths.

”Oh god…this-this isn’t real…! It’s-it’s j-just a dream, snowflakes!” Flaky says this to herself, looking down the ski lift, making sure not to fall off.

She nearly threw up at the sight of the ground so far away. She quickly returned her gaze from the ground, feeling her heart rate quickening, and her breath becoming more shallow.

”J-just calm d-down, Flaky…it’ll be fine…it’ll be…” Flaky tries to say this to herself, desperately taking as many deep breaths as she could.

In the end, she eventually succumbed to the panic, and felt her body go numb, her eyes shutting, and her form hitting the seat of the ski lift as it continued its ascent.

A day passed.

Two days.

Three days.

On day 4, in town, Giggles was a bit concerned. She tired falling Flaky many times, thinking she was still at the ski resort to toughen her nerves. On the 5th call, Giggles was almost ready to call Petunia.

”Flaky, pick up, damnit…!” Giggles said this to herself, clicking Flaky’s phone number once more, trying so hard to not instead call the police. Giggles knew Flaky had a habit of trying to exit her comfort zone, and usually failing. Giggles knew that the moment Flaky came back from a trip to the zoo, and having to play therapist when Flaky finally started breaking down.

Once more, nobody picked up.

”Snowflakes, pick up!” Giggles yells this into the phone, clicking Flaky’s phone number again.

Finally, someone picked up.

“I’m sorry-“ The other voice couldn’t even say the rest of the sentence before Giggles snapped.

”WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO FLAKY, LIFTY?!” Giggles screams this into the phone, fully prepared to go after Lifty, and maybe Shifty too if one of them tried to hurt Flaky.

”Flaky? The phone belongs to her? I…I honestly don’t know, Shifty kept scoping her house hoping she’s gone. She’s been gone for a long while, even after we-I mean-after Shifty took whatever he thought was valuable. PLEASE put more valuables in there for Flaky to replace what my brother took, please? I’ll take good care of them.” Lifty says this, trying AND failing at sounding concerned.

”Not a chance in Hell, you little piece of-“ The phone was immediately hung up afterwards, Lifty putting the phone back into his pocket.

”Flaky, hurry up from whoever you are, I want something to take from your house also…” Lifty slowly says this, before turning around and seeing Disco Bear dragging along skiing supplies.

”Hello, Lifty! Don’t mind my presence, I’m just heading to my ski resort before searching for Flaky and invite her on a small date.” Disco Bear says this, still walking along:

”You, asking Flaky on a date? If Flaky accepts, my fur is brown.” Lifty says this, opening a wallet and counting the cash inside. “Don’t think Disco Bear needs this cash.”

Around 3 PM, Flaky finally woke up. She felt…terrible. She felt like she hadn’t drank anything for a day, her stomach feels empty, and she couldn’t breath much.

”What the…please, please let it be a…” Flaky looked down, noticing herself still sitting on the ski lift, now higher up than even some of the clouds. She gasped, trying to steady her heart rate, looking at her watch to see if it was just a day or two.

Her watch was gone.
”NO-oh god-please-no…!” Flaky kept her hand firmly gripped in the hand rail of the ski lift, not wanting to fall during her panic. She clutched her chest with the other hand, feeling her quickening heart rate. “Calm down…deep breaths…” Flaky took a deep breath in, and out. Deep breath in, and out.

After a few minutes, she could finally feel her heart settling down. Right as she finally reaches the top of a mountain. As the ski lift slows down, she hops off, her legs weak and less than stable, making her fall to the snowy ground.

“Just…how high up am I?” Flaky says this, forcing herself up and looking down the edge of the mountain.

She couldn’t even see the clouds.

That was enough to make her give a small shriek, stepping back from the edge in case a gust of wind makes her fall down. She didn’t want Splendid to laser her in half when trying to save the town.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t looking behind her, and felt the sudden feeling of something penetrating her right foot. Pain surged in it, Flaky responding with a small scream of pain, looking down to see a nail, still hammered into a wooden plank.

”Oh-oh god-w-what the-“ Flaky couldn’t even process it, her foot now penetrated in a nail before she felt herself sliding down the mountain, her voice quickly turning from words to screams.

As she slid down the mountain, her foot still impaled by the metal, and hopefully not rusted nail, she nearly missed a nearby tree. Nearly.

”A-oh my-thank you, god!” She says this to whatever god that tried to save her, left arm sticking out to grab the tree, or at least a branch.

When she starts passing by the tree, her hand grabs at the tree, a branch, anything to slow her momentum.

She nearly felt a SNAP in her arm when the branch broke before she even remotely processed it broke: her shoulder nearly tore itself off when grabbing the branch.

Within milliseconds , Flaky’s screams of pain resumed, trying desperately to slow down by using her arm as something to make the air resist and slow her descent.

Then, she felt the sudden feeling of being launched into the air, the nail disliking itself from Flaky’s foot, herself nearly tumbling down the rest of the mountain, the board peacefully sliding down alongside her.

When Flaky finally reached what she thought was the bottom, she forced herself up with her right, unbroken arm, clutching her now nearly torn off left arm to keep it from falling off.

Then, she looked down at her right foot, trying to see the damage. She did not expect it to have a large, torn section in the middle, bleeding profusely, bone and muscle still visible.

Now registering the pain and gruesomeness of her own wound, Flaky couldn’t hold back a scream of just pain, but of fear at bleeding out.

She quickly pressed her hand against her mouth, just now remembering that loud noises could trigger an avalanche.

”Just…don’t scream, Flaky…! Just…s-see how far away someone is, at least…” She reassures herself, limping over the edge of the mountain bottom.

Turns out, she was just halfway down. She could see a VIP lodge, but it was so far down.

“Just…get to the lodge, Flaky…g-get to t-the freaking lodge-“ Flaky says this, and asking away from the ledge, noticing the plant and nail, now bloodied as a result of her skiing. Not wanting to do an electric boogaloo, as Disco Bear would put it, she walked around it, only to step on a plastic bottle.

”S-seriously? Litter?! Up h-here?!” Flaky asks herself this quietly, before hearing a rumble at the top of the mountain, and seeing what looked like clouds falling down from it.

Flaky knew those “clouds” weren’t clouds. Desperate to escape, she plots her good foot on the board, attempting to slide down. She slipped off immediately, hitting the ground on her still nearly torn off arm.

”OW-j-ow-no-no no no no no…!” Flaky quickly got up, seeing the snow still falling down.

She quickly turned to the plank, back at the falling snow making a very much lethal avalanche, and back at the plank, her eyes lingering on the nail.

She knew she had to in order to survive. She tried to convince herself, it’d be a quick pain, the adrenaline would make her numb for the slide down. Her eyes started to fill with tears, her mouth holding back a whimper, before she finally broke down and cried.

She placed her left foot on the nail, trying to force herself to step on it and make it go through her foot.

It slid on easily, most likely her blood acting like grease for her foot to impale itself into the nail.

She used in pain, using her other, damaged foot to slide herself forward, even if slightly.

Then the plank suddenly slid downward off the mountain, Flaky with it. Her screams resumed, albeit not by much, knowing it could worsen the avalanche and make it harder to escape.

”Just…get to the bottom…!” Flaky says this to herself, noticing a rock in front of her path.

She tries to swerve out of its way, before deciding to just jump over it due to how quick she was going down the mountain.

She felt the air flow through her spines, feeling the cold air howl through her ears when she hit the ground and resumed sliding down with the plank.

She kept looking forward, not wanting to miss another thing that could potentially lead her to death.

Before long, Flaky discovered a tree stump, deciding to jump over it again due to the speed she was going.

She could feel the cold air still, her foot still impaled in the plank, trying desperately to not get detached from it.

Eventually, Flaky reached the bottom, still sliding through the ground due to the speed, air resistance slowing her down, albeit terribly.

When she eventually slowed to a halt, Flaky forced the nail out of her foot, limping away from the mountain as quick as she could, feeling the chill of the winter air be pierced by the rumble of the avalanche coming closer.

She couldn’t even go 5 feet away before Disco Bear skid beside her, not at all noticing her injuries.

”Why, snowflakes, you look cold. How about you and I go to my VIP lodge and warm ourselves up?” Disco Bear asks this, reaching his arm around Flaky’s shoulder.

”D-don’t call me t-that, Disco Bear. I-I nearly d-died.” Flaky says this, her good arm brushing Disco Bear’s arm off of her shoulder, again keeping her arm over her nearly torn off shoulder to keep her other arm from falling off.

”Snowflakes, that ain’t a wise move. You can’t just go to town, you’ll freeze. I could get you a ride, after we warm ourselves up first.” Disco Bear says this, grabbing Flaky’s hand forcefully, not at all minding her personal space.

”S-stop touching me, D-Disco Bear…!” Flaky says this, forcing her hand out of Disco Bear’s grip, her agitation growing, the avalanche getting closer, slowing to a halt…and ruining what Flaky assumed was Disco Bear’s lodge.

”I’m being serious, Flakycakes, I want you to come with me.” Disco Bear tries once more, forcefully taking Flaky’s injured, nearly torn off left arm with his, causing Flaky to give a small, quiet, pained yelp.

”I said stop touching me!” Flaky yells this, using her less damaged foot to stomp on Disco Bear’s foot.

“Ow! What the hell’s that for?!” Disco Bear asks this, letting go of Flaky’s injured arm.

”For being a critter that won’t take a hint. Nobody likes you! Not Giggles, not Petunia, and definitely not me!” Flaky says this, turning to walk away from Disco Bear.

”Fine! Be that way! I know Giggles and Petunia will like me, though, and they’ll love me! They wil in the-“ Disco Bear’s screaming causes the avalanche to fall further, crushing him, and him only.

Flaky looks back, noticing the avalanche falling down a bit more, her fight or flight response choosing to instead freeze.

The avalanche slows to a halt, Disco Bear’s arm slowly visible at the bottom, twitching slowly, before stopping as blood came out from the bottom.

Flaky, no longer feeling gentle to Disco Bear and his attempts, as well as knowing he won’t remember what she says with him being dead, decides to drop the last of her anger at him.

FUCK YOU!” Flaky yells this, grabbing a nearby stick and jamming it into Disco Bear’s hand, not just for all the times he kept annoying her, Giggles, and Petunia, but also all the times he directly, or indirectly killed her and her friends, and others just so he can get a lady.

Now away danger, Flaky started limping away, towards the direction of town, fully prepared to rest for a day or two.

Back in town, Giggles and Petunia were walking around the streets, calling for Flaky.

”Flaky?! Flaky, where are you!” Petunia yells this, only stopping to check an alleyway. “Not there…where is she?!” Petunia asks Giggles, who was checking a dumpster in case someone dumped her body if she was killed.

”I don’t know! She last went to the ski resort, we both know that, then nothing! She can’t be doing something to be more courageous, as it’s Flaky, and she can’t be with Disco Bear either because it’s him!” Giggles says this, rummaging through the dumpster desperately.

”Maybe…maybe we should just go home. She might be missing.” Petunia says this, already grabbing her phone to call the police.

”You think I didn’t do that already?! I called them, and guess who was at the phone?!” Giggles yells this, throwing the dumpster once she confirmed Flaky wasn’t in it.

”Lumpy?” Petunia wasn’t surprised.

”Yeah, that guy! He…I…” Giggles finally fainted, the rush of the days catching up to her.

Petunia, shaking her head, picked Giggles up and started carrying her over her shoulder. “Come on, let’s get you to bed.”

Petunia walked, Giggles in her shoulder, towards Giggles’ home, only stopping when she noticed a trail of blood coming from the forest. “Strange…someone got hurt…!” Petunia says this in a quieted whisper, following the blood trail, which led…right to Giggles’ home.

And at the front door, one foot with flesh, bone, and muscle torn from the middle, the other having a hole in it, left arm nearly torn off, and dandruff in quills, was Flaky.

”Flaky?!” Petunia says this, letting Giggles fall off her shoulder as she rushed to check in Flaky.

”GAH-oh-Petunia…! I-I-I…” Flaky quieted down, her voice slowly turning into sniffles.

”Hey, calm down, you’re fine now. You’re safe again.” Petunia says this, wrapping Flaky in a hug, minding the quills, rubbing her back.

Unable to control her emotions, Flaky started crying into Petunia’s shoulder, her good arm wrapping around Petunia, clutching her like a safety blanket.

”You’ll be alright. Let’s…get you patched up.” Petunia says this, kicking open Giggles’ home and walking inside with Flaky, closing the door once the two were inside.

Giggles, slowly waking up, sat up and clutched her head.

”Ow…my head…what-“ She was interrupted when a garbage truck suddenly runs her over, her body slowly scraping over the road as it started to stretch and break apart.

A familiar blue, tall, and lanky moose with antlers grabs the containers filled with stuff meant to be recycled, and throws everything in the truck, even the containers themselves.

Then, he drove off, running Giggles over again, her body now splattered over the road as a mess.
