Summary
Peter had always understood something Henry never would: that beneath all the shouting, the slammed doors, and the endless declarations of hatred, Henry loved him.
It wasn't the soft, cuddly love Mum talked about in bedtime stories. It was sharp edged and reluctant, like a cat that hissed but still came to sleep on your pillow at night.
And actions always spoke louder than horrid words. Henry said he hated Peter like a mantra. Peter knew it was a lie he told himself to stay safe.
Peter didn't mean to learn how to weaponize that soft spot. He was a good little brother. He only wanted Henry to be happy. Even if the means of doing so were unconventional.

Summary
Peter never liked to make a fuss about the past. He wasn't sentimental the way some people were. He didn't hoard childhood trinkets or sit around reminiscing about cartoons and cringey family holidays. But there was one memory he couldn't shake.
It wasn't much. Just a tune. Soft, almost like a whisper. He didn't even know the words; maybe there weren't any. Just a gentle hum, rising and falling like waves, right against his ear.
He remembered being held, small arms around him, curled up against warmth that wasn't quite big enough to be an adult's. Fingers brushing through his curls.
The world was blurry, but that sound... it stayed clear. He remembered the way the sound vibrated against his skin. Steady. Protective.
