Work Text:
Rose realized she was dreaming as every turn down another stone hallway in the castle seemed to be the wrong one. The next door is going to be the right one, she told her dream firmly, and opening it, she wandered into a familiar throne room.
“You!” said the imposing figure on the high throne. “What are you doing here again?”
“Dreaming, I assume,” Rose replied. “But how did I get here?”
Dream of the Endless stepped down from his throne, and she stood with her chin up as he approached. This eldritch being may have almost killed her, but she’d seen the tears in his eyes as he did it. And hadn’t he said she and Jed were “children of the Endless,” whatever that meant? Maybe he would explain it now.
“That’s a good question. Normally dreamers can’t find their way into the castle.” He stood far too close and looked down into her eyes. “Perhaps it is because you were the Dream Vortex, or because you are a child of the Endless.” There was her opening. She grasped it before he went on the tangent she could see building in his eyes.
“What does that mean, Child of the Endless?” she asked, holding her breath for the answer.
“Well, I suppose it means,” he mused, then quirked his head and gave her a tiny smile, “it means that I am your uncle.”
