Chapter Text
The sky rolled on, blue as ever. But today, things were different.
Before, the sky felt like a near taunt to the people below, the sky so blue and alive; the ground so barren and dead.
Today was going to be different. A new day had come.

The weight of his limp body on his shoulder was nearly like a boulder, but he couldn't care. Vash smiled on. A pure, genuine smile teetered on the ends of his lips.
He had just fought his brother for the last time. His whole life, all his troubles had been building up to this.
Slung over his shoulder was his brother, Knives. Far too many times had Vash thought it would be easier to just kill him, to give one exception to his steadfast beliefs, to Rem, and stop the attacks on humanity.
In the end, Knives was disarmed and immobilized. Vash chose peace.
Knives lived his whole life thinking about the mistakes humans made against plants, about what happened to Tesla. He never wished to understand humans, it was below him.
Vash faced many conflicts in his own life, but he still had always loved the humans. He had seen so many wonderful and beautiful things, met so many wonderful and beautiful people.
Vash wanted to show him the world he could never see.

Milly and Meryl were home. They'd finally managed to hit water in the well, so they took home a good bucket of water. After days of hard work, it felt so nice to finally sit back for a while.
Meryl sat at the table, thinking to herself; somewhere in a pleasant daydream.
A knock hit the door. Meryl nearly jumped. She knew just who it had to be.
The knob turned, as a familiar blonde stepped into view. Just as Meryl got up to speak, she fell silent, noticing the man over his shoulder.
"You girls hit water, did you?" The man spoke, a tooth-rotting sweet smile on his face.
"Ah..-" Is all she could muster before he walked off to the guest room with the unfamiliar man.
She notices something just then, snapping out of her daze. He's all bandaged up, that must have been the brother he spoke of before he left that day.
Milly stepped into the room.
"Did Vash come back?"
Meryl nodded, "yeah.. and someone else."
Milly tilted her head to the side a bit, "oh?"
They both turned to look over at the closed door. Meryl clasped her hands together tensely. Another patient.

It was a fairly small room, but it was comfortable. Slowly, Vash lowered himself to his knees to gently lay his injured brother down on the bed.
Luckily, his bleeding had already slowed down by a lot, as was his healing speed as a plant.
With him laid on the bed, Vash stepped back, turning for the door.
He stepped back out into the hallway to meet the curious and/or worried eyes of Milly and Meryl. Meryl spoke up.
"Was that.." Her gaze grew severe, "Knives..?"
Vash nodded.
Meryl had her own questions, but perhaps it was better to leave them for later; there was a wounded man in the house.
