"What's your connection to the priest."
The officers hat cast a harsh shadow over his face and Frans couldn't read his expression.
"Erich, come now, what is this about?"

.
There was a drawn-out silence before Frans followed up with,
"Let's just get back to the group, they'll be starting to miss us."
Frans turned to go but was suddenly spun back around harshly by a hand grasping his collar.
"ANSWER ME!"
His eyes widened, his collar pinched his throat, and he was suddenly lost for words. There was a slight tightening of the fist holding him before he found the words.
"I-I don't understand...! Erich, please..."

Silence once more. Then his collar loosened, and the hand pulled away.
"Erich... I'm not sure what this is about, but we can figure this out. Together."
Erich turned away clutching his wrist. The tension was palpable, Frans reached out and let his hand rest on Erich's shoulder.
"You can trust me."
He tried to offer a comforting smile, which Erich didn't see.
A few moments passed and Erich didn't speak or move. Then Frans saw his hand move, reaching down for something at his belt.
Frans drew his hand back slowly, apprehensively. Watching as Erich slowly turned to face him.
"No, Frans."
A pistol raised to his eye-level.
"I can't."
The gun went off.
