Bechloe Week 2024 - Part 5 - Boss's Daughter

Summary:

The youngest Mitchell-Beale's first day on the job.

Being a vet may be the family business but it doesn't mean it's going to be a walk in the [dog] park.

Work Text:

Beca was hustling around the kitchen in their house earlier than normal.

Well earlier than her normal at least.

Today was a big day in the Mitchell-Beale household.

And having a proper breakfast on an important day was a family thing.

So, she was popping down the toaster, checking the stove for her special pancakes (grated chocolate into the batter for swirls of the good stuff throughout the flapjack), putting the espresso machine into action to make the perfect americanos to get the day started with a bit of an eyeopener.

She stopped what she was doing as she heard two steps of footsteps come down the stairs.

Her wife walked into the kitchen first, hair pulled back with a very cute tartan headband and wearing scrubs with Scottie dogs on them.

But it was the person following Chloe that Beca was most eager to see.

Dark hair perfectly styled.

Make up very professional looking with none of the usual raccoon rings.

Scrubs a mint green, new but washed and ironed before being tried on.

Stethoscope tucked into the breast pocket.

And a new name tag properly positioned over the left breast.

Beca tried to rein it in, but she couldn’t; “Good morning, Dr. Mitchell-Beale and almost Doctor Mitchell-Beale.”

Chloe smiled and gave her wife a kiss on the lips that lingered just barely on the side of decent.

C.C. rolled her eyes and said, “Calm down mom, you’re more excited than me for craps sake”

Beca rolled her eyes back, her daughter may have inherited the habit from Beca, but the older brunette was still the undisputed family eye-rolling champion.

“Catherine Claire, you’re going to have to watch your language.  I hear your boss is a real hardass and I’d hate for you to get fired on your first day”

Chloe barely stifled a giggle at Beca’s tone.  She couldn’t help it.  Serious Beca always made her laugh.

The redhead spoke up: “Yep, I’m a hardass alright.   You need to stay in my good books if you want me to give you a good report on your clinic rotation”

C.C. smiled: “I got it, mom.  You’re a tough boss and need to watch myself’

“Did you hear from your sisters?”

“They both texted me this morning.  Ellie wished me good luck.  Toni said she hoped I didn’t kill any patients on my first day.  Then she said good luck”

Beca clapped her hands together.

“Okay everyone sit.  You know you need a good meal to start the day off right.”

She then hustled over to the kitchen counter after making sure her wife and daughter had filled their plates.

Beca made Chloe lunch to take to work most days.

She’d done the same for the girls when they went to school.

Her lunches were the envy of every other students at the girl’s schools.

Not just sandwiches but dips and salads.

Thermoses of soup, chili and rice dishes.

Mexican, Thai, Italian, Korean, and traditional American meals were included in the contents of each family members lunch bag.

So amazing were the meals she prepared that they’d once resulted in a visit to the principal’s office because another student had tried to steal eight year old C. C’s lunch only to be tackled by both Toni and Ellie in the cafeteria and made to eat a rotten apple from the trashcan instead of their sister’s meal.

Today Beca was getting a little choked up as she carried over not one, but two lunch bags.

Chloe’s Bluey lunch bag

And a brand new Ahsoka lunch bag for C.C.

“Ahh mama, you didn’t have to…”

“Hush baby girl.  This is an important day in your life. And I’m so proud of you.  We’re so proud of you.’

With that Beca gave her daughter a hug so all encompassing the poor girl almost choked on her pancake.

Chloe just smiled at the big puddle of mush that was her wife.

She took a sip of her coffee and chimed in: “Your mother’s not wrong.  We’re both proud of you.  You’ve fought a lot of battles to get here, and your strength and determination is so inspiring”

C.C. blushed: “Okay enough with the sappiness.”

She picked up her lunch bag and felt its weight.

“Is this what I think it is, MamaB?”

Beca gave a big grin: “It’s your favourite.  A thermos of my mac and cheese and bacon.  And before you pout, Chloe, you’ve got one too”

Chloe pumped her arm in the air: “Score”

The redhead gulped down the rest of her coffee: “C’mon Cecil we can’t be late. Animals to save”

C.C. stood: “MamaC, promise me you won’t call me Cecil today!”

Chloe teased: “I will do my utmost, but I apologize in advance if a little Cecil slips out and embarrasses my baby girl”

“I guess that will have to do,” the younger brunette said.

Beca gave her daughter a hug and a good luck kiss.

She gave her wife a sightly longer kiss and a squeeze of the ass that earned a “Mothers!” from her daughter.

And out the door Chloe and C.C. went.

Beca had decided to work from home that day so she could welcome her girls home to a special “first day” meal.

The chicken cacciatore was baking in the oven and the salad was prepared.

Looking at her smart watch, she knew her wife and daughter would be home soon.

She’d done her best not to call or text today, so as not to be a distraction.

But she really really really wanted to know how it had gone.

The front door flew open, and whirlwind of brunette energy zoomed by Beca, leaving a rather pungent odour in its wake.

The blur left the following words in its wake as it sprinted upstairs.

“Gah, I need a shower, so gross.  I hate being the boss’ daughter”

Beca stood there with her mouth hanging open and then turned back to the door.

Chloe walked in, dragging her feet and with a sorry look on her face.

Beca rushed over and took her wife in her arms.

Chloe clung to Beca like she was a life preserver.

“What happened, babe?” Beca whispered into the redhead’s hair.

Chloe started talking in what Beca recognized was her upset voice: “C.C. was so adamant that I not show her any favouritism because she was my daughter, so I tried real hard not to.  But I may have overcorrected just a bit”

Beca couldn’t help but smile as she heard Chloe’s voice.  It was a good thing the redhead couldn’t see her face: “What happened, Chlo?”

“I can feel you smiling, Beca.   I may have made her express 6 sets of anal glands today, deal with a vomiting Great Dane, two Yorkies with explosive diarrhea and have to remove a bra from a German Shepherd’s behind that was partially expelled.”

Beca couldn’t help herself: “Sounds like C.C. had a shitty day.”

Chloe pulled away with a look of mock outrage on her face.

She gave her wife a slap on the arm: “Rebecca Eloise, it’s not funny.  Our child hates me.  She’s going to get me a “World’s Worst Boss” Mug.”

“Chloe my love, she doesn’t hate you.  It was a tough day, and some small adjustments need to made.  You’re both feeling this new dynamic out.  I’m sure it will get better.”

Chloe smiled and pecked Beca on the lips: “Thanks, babe you always know who to cheer me up”

Beca headed back into the kitchen to check on dinner.

“Oh, one last question,” she called to Chloe over her shoulder.

“What?”

“How many times did you slip up and call her Cecil today?”

“Ummm, more than one?”

“Chloe, spill it.”

“Um less than ten, more than eight”

“So, nine then.”

“It was nine” Chloe sheepishly replied.

Beca chuckled away to herself as she took the chicken out of the oven: ‘Oh this is going to be a fun month!”
