"Well there’s my favorite trick," she said. "I’ve been wondering if I’d see you again."
Beca looks up from the edge of the bed, slow, measured.
There’s no flicker of recognition—because there isn’t any. Not really. Just familiarity in the way Chloe fills a room, in the confidence of her posture, in the ease of that smile. The kind of familiarity that comes from repetition, not history.
“Dangerous thing to say,” Beca replies, voice even. “Makes it sound like you’ve been thinking about me.”
Chloe shrugs one shoulder as she shuts the door behind her, the soft click sealing them into the quiet, polished anonymity of the room. “Well.”
She steps forward, unhurried. Everything about her is deliberate—pace, posture, the slight tilt of her head as she takes Beca in.
“You book the same girl more than once,” Chloe adds lightly, “I’m allowed to be a little curious.”
Beca hums, like she’s considering that. “Curious how?”
“Patterns,” Chloe says. “Preferences. People don’t usually come back without a reason.”
Beca’s mouth twitches faintly. “Maybe you’re just good at what you do.”
