Summary
What could transpire in the aftermath of Viserys’ death if Aegon had previously taken steps to reform his character? What if he and Helaena were a united couple whose only goal was to keep their beloved children alive and safe from harm?
Told from Helaena’s point of view, this canon divergence fic follows an aged-up Helaena and Aegon during their first year of marriage, focusing on the arrival of their twins. The story then travels beyond the initial year, exploring an alternative Dance of the Dragons and the effects of Aegon’s recovery from alcoholism. In addition, we see the impact of Aemond’s complicated feelings towards his various family members on the war's outcome.
Featuring; a self-assured, dreamer Helaena with higher agency than in the show, a more book-accurate Aegon who respects his wife and adores his children, with no rape or infidelity storylines, and a lovelorn, reactive Aemond who often struggles with unrequited feelings for Helaena.
