Work Text:

"BRENT!!" Was all he heard as someone hugged him from behind, their arms over his shoulders as familiar rabbit ears came into his view, stopping him in his tracks. Brent was taken aback, feeling his knee buckle, almost tumbling over.
"Haaii," Sam spoke with a honeyed voice. "Booyfriieendd." A teasing smile was formed on his face.

"Are you seriously gonna call me that- wait, why isn't Coolment with you?" The taller brunet quickly added on, grabbing Sam's wrists and pulling him away, turning to look at him.

The bunny boy's lips pursed, breaking their eye contact before quickly glancing back "Well.. Coolment was taking a long time, plus he told me that he was going to Owl's house today."

Brent raised an eyebrow at this. "Oh, okay." He replied in a boring, flat tone. He himself found it weird, since Coolment and Sam are basically joined at the hip.
After an awkward minute of them staring, he was, eventually, grabbed at the wrist by Sam, forcing the athlete to walk home with him.

Quickly letting go, the shorter boy started to complain. "Today fucking sucked! Coolment barely even talked to me the whole day! Like wha..." His ranting continued on for a couple of minutes, enough for Brent to get sick of his voice. "...acting like I'm not his best friend at all!-"

"Oh well, sucks." He responded harshly, cutting him off. He wasn't really feeling it today, and Sam only just added fuel to the fire. His expression didn't show any emotion at all.

"Whatever.." The bunny hybrid grumbled, wanting to bash Brent over the head for not listening. Thinking about it, he realized he didn't have the 'problem solver' on him. Weird.

They kept walking in silence, occasionally having their hands accidentally brush up against each others, it made Sam's heart basically skip a beat, even if he never wanted to admit it.

"Oh! This is my place." Brent's voice forced him out of his thoughts, turning his head quickly when he heard him.

"Oh, okay!" Sam said, still a bit irritated, plus now he has to walk all alone! who is he gonna complain about his life to? "Bye, boyfriend!" He snickered, waving at him as he saw the boy walk into his own home.

Brent was gone and the bunny boy was walking once again, muttering something that was basically impossible to hear. He hated walking alone. Why did Coolment have to go to Owl's? Why was his fucking problem solver gone?

Finally, Sam reached his own house. He felt like a zombie walking up the steps to their shared bedroom, plopping onto his bed, dropping his sad schoolbag beside it, turning his head towards Coolment's bed.

"What are they even up to on a random Thursday.." The bunny mumbled to himself, grabbing his phone and calling Coolment. He waited and waited for him, but there was no answer. Sam sent him a message, slowly losing hope of him even responding. The most he could do right now is leave him on read, but looks like Coolment's not even doing that.

Sam was staring at himself in the bathroom mirror, his hair a mess and he looked like he was on the brink of madness. Why wasn't Coolment back yet? It's almost 8pm. Did he forget to mention that it'd be a sleepover too? Why didn't they invite him? All of these thoughts invaded his, already crowded, mind and it seems like they didn't wanna leave, no matter how hard he tried to convince himself that his minty cat would come back any moment.

He searched desperately for his problem solver, yet it wasn't even in their house. After a few moments of contemplating everything, he settled on just a box cutter, hopefully his wounds won't get infected like last time.

The bunny sat on the bathroom floor as he pulled his sleeve up, revealing other cuts. Some old, some new. Before he knew it, the blade was pressed up on his skin and was already sliding against it, repeating that motion two or three times. He felt the stinging, burning, as a familiar red liquid started to reveal itself from under Sam's skin. He hated it, but it helped him kill time.

When he got sick of it, he grabbed a long piece of toilet paper, bunching it up and soaking it in his own blood, wincing. He didn't know jack shit about this, Coolment was the one usually cleaning them up. After he felt like it soaked enough of the liquid, he got up and grabbed a couple of bandaids from their emergency kit. He basically slapped them on his cuts and called it a day.

The curly haired brunet walked out of the bathroom like nothing happened, dropping himself onto his bed and laying on his stomach, not putting any blanket over himself. He kept replaying his interaction with Brent. First, Coolment barely spoke a word with him today, and now Brent didn't give a flying fuck about him. What next? The whole world hates his guts?

Sam felt tears coming out of the corner of his eyes just thinking about them. He turned his head towards his phone, glaring at it. Quickly, his hand grabbed at it, turning it on trying to see if anyone messaged him, met with an empty lock screen and the time that said "9:46pm"

He cursed at himself while taking off his glasses, dropping both his phone and his glasses on the nightstand. Was he this horrible of a friend or what? He thought as he changed positions on his bed so now he was laying on his side. Sam took a moment to look back at his scars, weirdly admiring them.

He grabbed his Mr Snugglemuffins and hugged it tight, crying into it as he drifted off to sleep. He hated being vulnerable, but luckily nobody was home.
