Work Text:
In the gritty streets of Kamurocho, Daisaku Kuze was known as a tough-as-nails yakuza, a man who commanded respect with his fists and unflinching loyalty to the Tojo Clan. But beneath the gruff exterior and countless battle scars, Kuze harbored a secret—a bizarre twist of fate that made him the last person you'd expect to hold such a title: he was an ordained minister.
The whole thing started as a drunken joke. Kuze and his lieutenants, well into their cups one night, stumbled across an online ordination service. On a dare, Kuze filled out the form and, with a few clicks, became "Reverend Kuze." It was supposed to be a laugh, a punchline to a joke about tough guys finding God. But as with many things in Kuze's life, what started as a joke took on a life of its own.
One day, as Kuze was nursing a hangover in his favorite dive bar, a nervous young couple approached him. Both were from rival clans and had heard whispers of "Kuze, Ordained Minister." Desperate and out of options, they asked him to officiate their wedding.
Kuze blinked at them, half-amused, half-incredulous. "You gotta be shitting me. You want me, a yakuza, to marry you? Do you even know what you're asking?"
The young man stammered, "W-We know it's crazy, but you're the only one we can trust not to... you know, blow this up. Please, Kuze-san."
Kuze sighed deeply, rubbing his temples. "Alright, fine. But I ain't wearing no collar, and this never happened, got it?"
The couple agreed, and they arranged to meet at a quiet shrine on the city's outskirts. As Kuze trudged through the rain to the shrine, he couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. Here he was, a notorious yakuza, about to play priest.
At the shrine, Kuze stood before the couple in a simple robe, trying his best to look solemn. The ceremony was as straightforward as Kuze himself.
"Alright, listen up," Kuze grumbled, scratching his head. "I don't know how these things usually go, but life's a mess, especially for people like us. If you're serious about this, then good on ya. But remember, love ain't always enough—you gotta work at it, just like any other job. Except this one, you can't quit. Capisce?"
The couple nodded, giggling nervously. Kuze continued, "In whatever messed-up way we do things, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Now, scram before anyone sees us."
The newlyweds thanked him profusely, laughing and crying as they left. Kuze watched them go, feeling an unexpected warmth. It was bizarre, but it felt good to be part of something positive, even if it was just this once.
Back at the bar, one of his lieutenants sidled up, smirking. "So, heard you did some holy work today, boss. What's next? Kuze's Daycare?"
Kuze snorted, downing his drink. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. But you know what? It was kinda nice, doing something that didn't involve busting heads."
The lieutenant chuckled. "Never thought I'd see the day. Kuze, the Minister of Love."
Kuze rolled his eyes, but a grin tugged at his lips. "Just keep it quiet, alright? Don't need the old man thinking I'm going soft."
As the night wore on, Kuze couldn't shake the feeling that maybe, just maybe, there was more to life than fists and fury. Sure, he was still a yakuza, but maybe "Kuze, Ordained Minister" wasn't such a bad gig after all. It was weird, a little absurd, but hell, so was life. And if he could bring a little peace into the chaos, even in his own rough way, why not?
So, Kuze continued his strange double life, finding unexpected humor and meaning in the most unlikely of places. He'd never stop being a yakuza, but maybe, just maybe, he'd found a way to be something more.
