Work Text:
The brat was having another nightmare.
Sukuna gazed down at him, a grin spreading across his face. He placed a hand over his vessel’s head and channeled his energy into the boy to keep him asleep.
They were both in Sukuna’s domain. Sukuna, seated on his makeshift throne of skulls. And the brat, slouched between his legs and cheek pressed to the front of his kimono. It wasn’t often that they were in the same space; Sukuna preferred his solitude over the brat’s obnoxious antics. But ever since that encounter with the patch-faced curse and the gruesome death of that boy he had foolishly gotten attached to in such a short time, his sleep was often plagued by dreams. Presumably of that day.
It was a nice reprieve from the boredom Sukuna was forced to endure. So, he let the brat slip into his domain when he was sleeping. He couldn’t see what kind of dreams the brat was having, but with the way his face twisted up in his sleep and the tiny whimper that occasionally escaped his lips, it must be truly horrifying.
Sukuna thought back to that day. How he envied that curse! Sukuna may have been the one to shatter the brat’s remaining hopes for his idiot friend, but that curse got to see the despair on the brat’s face. It must have been quite a sight with how hard he had been laughing along with Sukuna.
Ah, well. There would be other opportunities. Especially now that Sukuna had an escape plan set up. All he had to do was wait for the right moment to enact it.
His vessel sniffled. The sound broke Sukuna out of his musings and turned his attention back to the face he’d been observing. There was a glimmer right by one of the brat’s eyes. A tear leaked out and trailed down his cheek. Sukuna leaned down with interest. This was the first time he witnessed the brat crying in his sleep.
“What will your face look like when the time comes?” he asked. His tongue poked out and licked up the tear. He savored the salt on his tongue. “I’m looking forward to seeing it already.”
