   In the year 1853, Cleo travels to Australia with her husband in an attempt to join the gold rush in Victoria and New South Wales. In order to get out there, they hire an Australian-born woman named Pearl to guide them. Pearl and Cleo connect in a way that Cleo's never quite connected with anyone before, and before long Cleo must make a choice. Stay with her husband, something that might kill her, or travel with Pearl, who isn't quite what she seems, and might be a whole lot more dangerous.
