Work Text:
Everyone was tired, but relieved it was all over. Wolfram had been defeated and he and his surviving cohorts were currently being hauled off to prison. The party guests were either trying to get their bearings and talking to the police or having their wounds taken care of. Kirishima was one of the former. He was happy his friends and classmates were alright, but was disappointed that his night with Bakugo had been halted in its tracks.
Speaking of, he really needed to talk to his friend.
Bakugo was off a ways talking with Midoriya. Kirishima didn’t want to interrupt, so instead, he stood by himself looking out over the peaceful ocean and rising sun in the far distance. Soon, he had zoned out so much that he almost didn’t hear Bakugo walking over to him.
“Hey.” he said, drawing Kirishima out of his ocean viewing. “Oh, hey.” Kirishima said with a smile. The two boys were silent for a while, both of them now looking at the scenery before them. “You know that girl that was with Deku?” Bakugo asked. “Yeah?” “Turns out her father was an accomplice to all this shit.” Kirishima was stunned. “What, really?” Bakugo nodded. “He made that weird headset the metal bending bastard had on him, but he didn’t know it was going to go as far as it did. Or so he claims. He’s agreed to work with the police, so that’ll probably get him a lighter sentence. Idiot doesn’t deserve it if you ask me.”
Bakugo fell silent again, leaving Kirishima to ponder the subject. He felt awful for that poor girl. It must’ve been devastating to learn your own parent was involved in a crime that could’ve killed hundreds or even thousands. But Kirishima didn’t feel like thinking about the bad stuff. Everything turned out okay in the end and that’s what he should focus on. “I dunno.” he said. “I’d like to believe everyone is deserving of a second chance. Or at least most people.” Bakugo scoffed. “Then you’re a godamn idiot.” Kirishima smiled “Happy to be one then.” Hearing that made Bakugo scoff a bit.
Things were quiet again between them until Kirishima spoke. ”I saw you smiling at Midoriya earlier after the fight.” Kirishima said, looking over at Bakugo with a light smile tugging at his lips. Bakugo glared daggers at Kirishima. “Shut your damn mouth, Shitty Hair!” Kirishima just giggled. “Yeah you were, you can’t hide from me.” he said teasingly. “I said shut it!” Bakugo replied back angrily. Kirishima continued his giggling before calming down after a minute. “But seriously, I may not know a lot about your history with each other, but I can tell you really do care for him.”
Bakugo looked down at the ground, a sign Kirishima took as the blond was getting uncomfortable with the conversation, so he dropped it. But now, he supposed, came a good a time as ever to tell the truth he was about to say to Bakugo back on the 80th floor before their run in with those two criminals. Kirishima just hoped he wouldn’t get too mad at him.
“Hey Bakugo.” he started, praying he wasn’t going to mess this up. “You know how we got lost on the 80th floor?” “How could I forget, considering that’s where those two assholes found us.” Bakugo said with a hint of annoyance. “The fact we got that lost is a real testament to how much of a moron you are.” Kirishima chuckled a little. “Yeah, well the truth is…we weren’t actually lost.” Kirishima shut his eyes tight as he said the next sentence, bracing himself. “I led us there on purpose. I wanted to bring you there.” Kirishima nervously opened his eyes to see Bakugo’s reaction, which turned out to be one of surprise.
“I know! I know! That’s an awful thing to do, leading you on like that, but I saw it on a map of the building not long after we got here and it seemed like a really cool place and I figured you wouldn’t wanna go to the party and I didn’t want to have anyone bothering us, so I left my phone behind and didn’t tell you when I saw you forgot yours and I was going to tell you the truth back there, but then those guys showed up and everything else happened a-and….” Kirishima took a breath and gulped as he felt his eyes water. “I’m so sorry Bakugo. I just wanted to do something nice as my way of thanking you for letting me come as your plus one to the expo besides just buying a tux. But I get it if you’re mad at me.”
Kirishima suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked up from the ground to see Bakugo looking back at him with an unreadable expression. “You really are an idiot, Shitty Hair.” Kirishima was ashamed and a bit confused, but could tell Bakugo had more to say. ”You seriously should’ve just asked. Because…I might’ve said yes.”
In that moment, Kirishima felt that his heart had just been hit out of nowhere by one of Bakugo’s signature explosions.
“W-What? Really?!” he responded in shock as a smile began to form. “I said maybe!” Bakugo clarified. “Yeah, you’re right, it was a stupid move not to tell me.” his friend explained. “But…” he said with a sigh. “I guess being stuck with you in some atrium was less boring than going to a dumbass banquet” Kirishima could hardly fathom what he was hearing. Bakugo didn’t hate him. Heck, he wasn’t even mad at him! He sounded almost grateful, actually.
“Bakugo…” Kirishima said, now crying a little. “You’re the best!” Kirishima pulled Bakugo into a hug. One that wasn’t openly reciprocated, but was par from the course for someone like Bakugo, which the redhead was used to by this point so he didn’t mind. Pulling away from the hug, Kirishima smiled wide. “How ‘bout when things settle down in a few days we can maybe try again? We can go back to Floor 80 or do something else if you want. Plus, I’ve got a feeling they’re gonna try to do over the banquet, so that could be a good time to do it.” Bakugo only took a second to answer.
“One condition.”
“Name it.”
“We’re taking our fucking phones.”
Kirishima laughed. “Deal!” Kirishima pumped a fist in the air. “Alright! I’m so excited! I promise you man, we’re gonna have so much fun! This time around, they’ll be no Villains or anybody else to bother us!” Bakugo’s smile grew. “Hell yeah.” he said as the friends fist bumped.
Not too long after, the kids got back to their rooms at the hotel so they could rest. Kirishima went to go have a quick shower and change while Bakugo laid on one of the beds. When Kirishima got back out, he found Bakugo had fallen asleep, still in his torn clothes. He chuckled softly. He looked so cute like that. But there was no way he’d be comfortable sleeping with shoes on. Trying to be as quiet as possible, Kirishima walked over to Bakugo’s bed and slipped his shoes and socks off, placing them next to where his own footwear was before gently getting Bakugo under the blankets and then climbing into the bed next to him.
Kirishima looked over at the boy sleeping in the adjacent bed. He smiled, so relieved that Bakugo had forgiven him. In spite of that temper of his, Bakugo was an amazing friend. Even though the redhead sometimes felt someone as boring as him didn’t deserve to have someone as cool and manly as the blonde in his life, he was so happy they met. Kirishima soon began to slip into the void, excitedly looking forward to all the fun the two of them would have in the next few days.
