Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Evan couldn’t breathe. Between the cigarette smoke and the heavy amounts of whiskey and cocktails he had consumed he couldn’t tell what it was but one thing was certain, no more air seemed to want to go in his lungs.

Like most of the nights in which he felt as if he couldn’t breathe when at that dingy old bar hidden somewhere in downtown London, Evan took a step back and went outside to clear his lungs, probably with another cigarette.

And that’s when he saw Barty. He looked like a looming black cat with his back resting against the bar wall and the only thing that lit up his face was the fire from his zippo as he went to light his cigarette.

At the same time Evan felt weirdly attracted, intimidated and weirded out by the lanky man in front of his eyes.

“Have you got a light?” Evan asked even though he was well aware he had one, he just wanted an excuse to talk to him.

“Umm… Yeah sure here you go” the stranger said as he leaned towards Evan to light his cigarette.

Evan felt his heart racing as the stranger bent down in order to reach him, to be honest he didn’t make out if the thing turning him on was the height difference or just the guy’s mysterious nature.

“So you got a name or what, princess?” the stranger asked him smugly, almost as if he knew that Evan was staring at his lips only moments ago.

“Maybe… What’s it to ya?” Evan responded,as he let out the smoke, with a palpable amount of confidence in his voice, trying to seem as if he wasn't just a tiny bit scared by the situation.

“I wanna know what to call you, tho you don’t seem like ‘princess’ is bothering you.”

“It’s not” Evan responded bluntly trying to seem nonchalant. “I’m Evan” he continued, his voice small.

“Barty.” the stranger said as he extended his hand for Evan to shake.

When Evan grabbed hold of his hand he felt something in him change. He probably let another intrusive thought loose. And most likely it’s one of those ‘ what if he’s the one? ’ thoughts he always gets at that bar where he meets a stranger the night he went there to forget about his most recent ex.

“So what’s a pretty thing like you doing out here? Shouldn't you be in there dancing and having fun and hooking up with people in bathroom stalls?”

Evan laughed. A proper laugh, not just a fake giggle.

“What’s so funny?” Barty questions with some offense hidden in his voice.

“Nothing,” Evan said through giggles. “It's just that I find it funny that that question makes you sound like a grandpa even tho we’re probably the same age.”

“Is that so?” Barty asked while laughing just enough to make Evan smile. “If that made me sound like a grandpa then do enlighten me… what age do you give me?”

“22.” Evan spoke without missing a beat but that surprisingly made Barty roll his head back laughing.

“Ohhh damn… 22 those were the days, fresh out of collage, my dad just died so huge inheritance in the bag… what i wouldn’t give to be 22 again.” he responded between giggles

“Wait. So if you’re not 22 then how old are you?” Evan said slightly concerned since he just moved out of the house at 19.

“I’m 25, princess.” Barty said smugly smiling

“Oh dear lord, how the hell can you be 25?!” Evan yelled at him confused. “I turn 20 in a month and i was flirting with a fucking 25 year old.”

“Oh so you were flirting with me, that’s good to know cause I’m pretty bad at reading between the lines.” he said giggling

Good god Evan now you’ve done it. Your whole facade is fucking over.

“Oh my god I can’t believe I just said that… I’m - I’m gonna go…” he said, stumbling over his words as his feet shuffled to go back into the smoke filled bar.

And just as he was about to make the corner and go back inside, he felt a hand gently but sturdily wrap around his wrist pulling him back next to the bar wall. It was Barty.

“Don’t go.” Barty demanded as he softly let go of Evan’s wrist opting to put his arm around him. “Do you have a tab inside?”

“What?” Evan asked almost flabbergasted at what was happening.

“Inside. In the bar. Do you have a tab you need to pay off?”

“Ummm… Yeah… Why?”

“Here.” Barty said as he waved his credit card in front of Evan’s face. “Pay it off and meet me back here.”

“Oh wow… ummm… Barty I can’t take this it’s too much.”

“You can and you will. Now go pay it off. I’ll be here”

Evan couldn’t  believe what was happening. A guy (a very handsome and tall one not to mention) just gave him his credit card to pay off a 300£ tab, but is also waiting for him outside, probably wanting to take him home tonight. All that Evan could hope is that this guy isn’t going to be like the last one…

“HI! I’D LIKE TO PAY OFF MY TAB, PLEASE!” Evan yelled over the music in the bar

The barkeep just nodded at him, probably being used to people yelling at him to drown out the music.

After he paid his plethora of drinks Evan went outside to find Barty, only to find him inside a car that Evan couldn’t quite make out the logo of but for sure was expensive.

“Get in, princess.”

“So… Where’re you taking me?” Evan asked, trying to seem more sure of himself then he was as he handed Barty back his credit card.

“My place.” he answered confidently.

“Your place?” Evan responded, attempting to match his self-assurance.

“My place.” Barty reassured him.

They didn’t make it to Barty’s place.

If you ask either of them what determined Barty to pull over in a dim-lit parking lot and eat Evan out like it was the last day on earth neither of them will know what to tell you. Maybe it was the alcohol in both of their systems, maybe it was Evan’s need to rawdog another break-up by getting railed right after, or maybe it was Barty’s pure attraction to the short boy that looked up at him with puppy eyes almost like he was telepathically saying ‘ please fuck me ’. Regardless, none of the two men could explain their casual hook-up. But both of them can confirm that it was quite enjoyable.

And although Barty didn’t quite keep his promise to Evan regarding for them to ‘go to his place’ he did take the younger boy home.

“When will I see you again?” Barty asked him, almost like he was begging to.

“I guess whenever fate decides…” replied Evan with a dreamy fucked-out look on his face.

“Princess, I’m serious, I want to see you again.”

“Uhhh… yeah, okay,” Evan mumbled “Here give me a pen or sumthing.”

As Barty fumbled for a pen, the other boy searched in his bag for a spare ciggy.

“Oh Ev come on… another cigarette?” Barty said disappointed. "You're so young, baby, you got you're whole life to fuck up your lungs." Barty pleded

“It’s not for me you idiot, here give me the pen,” Evan said as he started to scribble something on the fag. “It’s my number, because I feel like you’re the kind of person to get a phone number written on their hand and than wash their hands and remembered the next day when you’re sober. But I don’t think you’d forget this if I slide it in your pack cause you’ll eventually want to smoke to get through the hangover…”

“Such a bold assumption of you to make.”

“I don’t know, I guess I’ll have to see you a 2nd time to figure that out.” Evan winked as he walked into the apartment building in which he and his sister live in.
