Chapter Text
Hi. I’m Raiden Ei. As of writing, I am twenty-three years old.
In this document, I will detail the events following the termination of my job, including but not limited to how I met my girlfriend, the cataclysm that occurred as a result, and a lot of tofu.
I used to work for a mailing company. I’d say it was maybe 2 years ago that I’d gotten hired? And honestly I don't remember off the top of my head so we’ll say it was then. Regardless of when it was, I’d been working there for about a year when It Happened.
Imagine me, a “veteran worker” (many of my coworkers were either newbies or had been there for a decade), folding cardboard boxes behind the front desk, when a girl my age walks in through the front door.
In the next scene: she stands on the other side of the table saying something to me, since I’m right front and center.
I’m just staring at her purple eyes, her pink hair, and holy mother of Barbatos her fucking humongous tits hanging out the side of her top that I’m definitely gaping at.
It probably takes me about fifteen hours before I respond, and by that point the girl has already done the unthinkable.
She looks around her, eyeing my other coworkers next to me, and apparently my manager too I don’t remember, and gives them a look of some combination of “is anyone else seeing this shit” and “someone's gonna help me, right?”
“Oh. Yeah,” I say, dumbly, not knowing whatever the hell she’d just said. “What can I help you with again?”
She looks at me again with slight irritation in her eyes this time, which to be honest makes sense. Even I could see it at this point. “I said,” she says,” I have a package to pick up that apparently shipped to this building?”
“Ah, okay.” I nod, still staring my eyeballs out.
At this moment, my manager shows up out of nowhere and slams a huge heavy-looking package on the counter with more force than was probably warranted. She barks an order at my coworker: “Danny, carry this out for Ms. Yae.”
Then, she turns to me with murder in her eyes.
“In my office. Now.”
At this point, you’re probably thinking, Raiden Ei, what were you thinking, leering at some stranger like that? Well, honestly, I wasn’t really thinking. I probably dissociated or something because I don’t remember the exact events, only when Yae Miko (that girl was Yae Miko by the way) walked through the door and stood in front of me. It was only when I went through the office door and turned face-to-face with my manager that I returned to existing.
I honestly felt pretty bad, so I’d tried to apologize, even offered to go out and apologize to the victim directly, but then my manager just laid out all of the transgressions I’d committed over the past year.
Okay, it was a lot. She had a lot of shit to pull up on me because I’d done a lot of shit. She just went on about all the things I’d done, some of them I could have sworn did not go that way, but it all came to a head on that day.
As you can probably understand now, that was the day that I got fired. I guess she’d just had enough from me. I was pretty sad to go, but it made sense. I was not a great worker at that business.
Well anyway, as I was on the train ride home after getting fired, I probably should have been thinking about what job to apply for next, and how to pay for this month’s rent and whatnot, but instead I was just thinking, “huh, what a strange interaction with that girl,” and, “well that just happened. good thing I’ll probably never see her again, right? haha—”
I saw her again the next day.
“Oh. You,” she said to my face as I stood in a bookstore, talking to who seemed to be the manager of the place.
At this point, I just tried to pretend that yesterday never happened. “Hi. I’m Raiden Ei,” I said. “I’m wondering if you are hiring at this location.”
Naturally, as anyone would expect, that caused her to burst out laughing. “I got you fired??” she cackled and howled. “That is the funniest shit I’ve heard all week.”
Since I’d already asked my question, I just stood there and let her laugh it off.
She wiped tears from her eyes and then addressed me again, and by this point it became clear to me that she was a woman who saw no rush in life. For all I knew, she probably walked two steps behind her own feet. That was how laid-back she seemed to be.
Well anyway, she wasn’t hiring. It was a super random coincidence that one of the stores I walked into was Yae Publishing, and this Yae person who I didn’t originally know happened to be the same chick that got me fired literally the previous day.
I cut my losses from that establishment and continued looking for other places that were hiring, and I also had to move out of my apartment that week. I suppose it was kind of nice moving back in with my sister, but she definitely was not super happy. Even I could tell that she was not that happy with what happened to me. Yeah, I made some bad decisions, intentionally or not, but the disappointment from Makoto kind of stung, you know?
Besides the fact that I had to say goodbye to my landlord (I gave her a box of cookies that I’d baked that day as the last time I’d use that oven—she was very unhappy), more important than all of what happened that week was the fact that I would no longer be able to play games on the console that my next door neighbor had. I wasn’t sure how to say goodbye to him, so I just decided to not say anything and disappear quietly. I think he was getting sick of me knocking on his door to ask if I could play, too.
Well I really lucked out entirely because to this day I still have not gotten a job. Yes, you heard right: it’s been almost a full year since this week and not a single interview came up fruitful. I don’t know what the big deal is with these companies. Apparently this corner of Inazuma City is a huge bum. I should have known, to be honest.
Anyway, that was the termination of my job and the current status of my employment. By the way, before you ask, I am still applying for jobs. I’m currently expanding my search to other parts of the city, but I have to do so carefully because I would like to avoid needing to use the rails. I heard from Makoto that it’s full of normal people down there, and that scares me a little bit.
I still have to discuss more of how Yae Miko and I went from “what the hell are you doing here” to where we are now. Long story short, I live with her right now. It’s called mutually beneficial symbiosis.
I will get into the details later. Right now, I need to go to bed. The sun is already rising and I am still awake.
Also, I’ve been getting pinged on Discord for the entire time I was writing this. I’m gonna go pop into the chat and say hi for a bit, too.
