Summary
There’s something wrong with him when he wakes up in the same shallow place he fell asleep. It’s heavy underground, a promise of heat where the sand slips in through gaps in broken glass, slow streams when the wind blows south. The basement sticks to his skin with an unnatural, clammy chill. Something hurts, a sharp pounding pressure in his skull, searing heat radiating out from his leg, below the knee. Something doesn’t hurt, the place where the pain abruptly cuts off. He scrambles up on his elbows, angles his head to look, and finds the floor tilting down, down, down.
“Fuck.”
