“The relief (Fig 1.) is from a vessel that was discovered in a dig near Athens, dated at around 53o BCE. Depicted are two nude male figures astride a horse, seeming to ride into combat. While the figures are not known definitively, based on the blue shroud one wears, scholars have hypothesized that these may be depictions of Malak and Lysander, two highly mythologized warriors from the period who had a very close relationship.”
