The First Date:
It was close to sun down. Varian was almost losing his mind in anticipation for his date with Hugo. He didn't think setting up the date would be harder than asking for it.it took him close to a week to ask and Hugo said yes! Varian had asked Yong and Nuru to bring Hugo at a curtain time and that still didn't calm his nerves. Although Varian was extremely excited for this. In all fairness this was his first actual date and he was 19. And Hugo was his first and hopefully only partner ever.
Varian had set up a fluffy blanket on the beach with a few candles around for mood lighting. The basket has some hot chocolate in a heat sealing container, ham sandwiches, Apples and some other fruits, and some cookies. He had everything planned, from when the sun set to his special surprise, everything was ready. Even if his nerves were absolutely eating from the inside out.
“Are we there yet?” Hugo whines, His glasses have been taken by Nuru as he has a blind fold on. Hugo has a green vest, a gray shirt, and thick black pants. Seeing Hugo makes Varian's heart flutter against his chest.
Nuru, clearly annoyed like Hugo has been doing this for hours, “Almost! Now shut up before we make you try to find your way yourself.”
Hugo chuckled, knowing what he was doing. “Fine, fine, I'll keep my mouth shut-”
Varian chuckled, waving at Yong and Nuru as they left Hugo and him there alone on the beach. As Hugo took off the blind fold, replacing it with his glasses Varian started to get more nervous seeing those green eyes of Hugo's. Seeing them made Varian's legs feel wobbly like their first kiss all over again. But with a deep breath, Varian calmed himself down.
With a smile and taking Hugo’s hand, Varian spoke not letting his nerves affect his voice. “Welcome beautiful,” he said, kissing Hugo's hand, earning a laugh from him.
“Pft-ha ha! Stop~” He giggled, giving Varian a kiss on his forehead. “Thanks for the date goggles~”
Varian could have melted but held it together, leading his boyfriend to the spot. Hugo was amazed looking at how much time and effort went into something Varian made just for him which he still wasn't used to given they had only arrested Donella 3 months ago and he still wasn't used to this.
“Goggles…” he said in awe looking at the picnic, holding Varian's hand's in his own, rubbing the back of his hands. “This is all for us?” he said, slightly shocked tilting his head.
“Of course!” Varian responded cheerfully. “Just for us!” he smiled, giving the taller boy kiss which Hugo gladly took.
“You're such a sap!” Chuckled Hugo, sitting down on the fluffy picnic blanket which Hugo commented on. “Freckles, I don't think fluffy blankets are meant to be used for a picnic… or at the beach…. Or outside in general-” He pauses in-between his thoughts questioning why they had a fluffy blanket under them.
Varian paused, gripping the blanket with his glove. “Shush- I like fluffy blankets and I thought you would too…” Varian says looking down as Hugo chuckles.
“Of course I do!” he says between a chuckle “But usually fluffy blankets are meant to stay inside Hairstripe-”
Varian chuckled back, scooching closer to Hugo. “Yeah- but I like em!” He smiles, leaning on Hugo's shoulder pulling out ham sandwiches for them. “Here ya go!” He smiles.
Hugo smiles back, responding with. “Thanks babe~” He hummed, eating the sandwich while talking with Varian.
Hugo and Varian continued their conversation as the sun was almost set and Varian sat up holding his hand out to Hugo. “Hey, I gotta show you something!” Varian smiled, helping the taller boy up as he led him down the beach to a waterfall.
The view was beautiful, the trees below blowing in the wind, birds and such nearby singing a tune, the clouds were perfect, only slightly covering the sunset in a beautiful manner.
“Ta da~” Varian chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck with a small blush plastered on his face.
“Aww, Goggles. It's beautiful!” Hugo gave Varian a forehead kiss.
Varian naturally leaned into this, enjoying the feeling as the sun fully set and they made their way back to the picnic area when Hugo got a bright idea.
Hugo set his glasses on the blanket, picking Varian up.”Up you go!”
“AH-” Varian streaked, wrapping his arms around Hugo's neck. “H-hey! What's the big idea???”
Without another word, Hugo threw Varian into the water with a laugh, “Ha ha ha!!! Gotcha~” Hugo laughed.
Varian grumbled, grabbing Hugo's arm, yanking him in with him. “AH HA!!!” He laughed.
Now they both giggled as they splashed each other with water as the stars twinkled above and the moon glowed its faint light.
