Work Text:
There are
Days
When Mito will
Take one look
At Gon— a
Shell
Of his former self
Smile cracking at the
Edges, eyes
Downcast and empty—
And feel a deep rage
Well up within her
Breast
She hides it under
Smiles and hugs
But once Gon leaves
The house for the day
Lets it slip,
Taking first to the laundry,
Then to her baking
Kneading
Pounding
Stretching
Dough— pulling
Pressing
Squeezing
Fabric— choking
The life out of her foe
Chore after chore
She completes
Her secret training
For one day she will
Have her revenge
Bring down a mother’s
Wrath
On the miserable creature
That caused her child’s pain
But until then she trains
Folds laundry
Bakes pies
Chops wood
Runs errands
Builds her strength
Slowly but surely and
Welcomes Gon home
With a smile each day
Until his joy might return
