Summary
“Can I see the address of the hotel?” Henry asks. He looks at the paper he’s handed and sees the mistake. The hotel on the booking is on the other side of the city. After looking for another minute, Henry realizes where the man went wrong. The directions he’s written himself tell him to turn east onto the street, but he needed to turn west to get to the hotel.
“Ah, I see. You needed to turn west onto the street, you turned east.” Henry explains, and hands the paper back to the man.
“What? How?” the man questions.
“You wrote, ‘tourner vers l'est’. Tourner vers l'est means turn east.”
“No, ‘tourner vers l'est’ means turn west.” the man insists. He pulls out a small thin book out of the back pocket of his chinos, a French pocket dictionary which is one of the hottest things Henry has ever seen. He frantically flips through the pages, presumably trying to find “east” and “west”.
“See,” he starts “west is… ‘tourner à l'ouest’… fuck me.” he says, exasperated.
