Work Text:
Tommy is currently sitting outside of his studio where his equipment has just committed violent suicide by bursting into flames as soon as he turned his soundboard on and he waves at Howie while eyeing his colleague. He smiles when he sees the firefighter blush before walking toward the curb where the rapper is.
“Were you hurt at all during the explosion, Rocker?” Tommy raises an eyebrow at the use of his stage name, not remembering seeing this man before, even at a concert, before smirking up at the handsome man.
“No, I had turned the soundboard on from my doorway and started running as soon as I heard the crackle of sparks from the piece of tech.” He smirks even more when the firefighter starts staring at his partially visible tattoos with his slightly rolled-up sleeves.
“Well, let one of us know if you were actually hurt, okay? By the way, I’m Evan.” Tommy checks Evan out and gulps when he realizes that he is at eye level with the bulge in the other man’s uniform.
“I’ll make sure to let you know if I was hurt, Evan.” He’s smiling up at the man when the alarm on his phone goes off, letting him know that he’s supposed to have lunch with his best friend, so he gets up and goes to his car.
“I’m sorry Evan, but I have somewhere that I need to be, here’s my number and I’ll call you sometime.” While Buck plays with the piece of paper between his fingers, he doesn’t realize that Eddie is also trying to meet Tommy.
The pair end up calling and texting each other every day, minus when Buck is dealing with an active fire or Tommy is in the booth rapping, and Eddie tries to support his friend but he also wishes that it was him instead of his best friend.
“I’m just trying to say, Buck, I find it strange that he’s been contacting you and flirting with you every day for the last 3 weeks and has never once asked you out on a date.” Buck rolls his eyes, hearing this opinion from his best friend for the 5th time since their shift started this morning, when his phone chimes with a text.*
”I guess you spoke just a little too soon, Eds.” Buck says while showing his best friend the text from Tommy after typing his reply and sending it. Eddie pouts and stops talking to his best friend, finally letting his jealousy take over for the first time in weeks as he notices Buck smiling brightly at his phone.
“Everyone, we’re at the site.” Bobby mostly angles the message toward Buck so he knows to pause the conversation with Tommy.
*“You can flirt with your famous crush after we rescue this family.” Hen teases Buck after catching sight of the name that the man has changed Tommy’s to in his phone, causing the younger man to laugh while shaking his head.
“I don’t have a crush on Tommy.” Buck says as he anchors the trucks to each other and watches as his best friend gets extremely annoyed and jealous.
“I literally watched you change his name in your phone from his stage name to ‘my future boyfriend’ not 2 minutes ago. You aren’t fooling anyone.” Chimney chimes in agreeing with his best friend while all work on pulling the pickup truck over the edge of the bridge.
“Can we please focus on saving these people instead of talking about Rocker right now?” Eddie asks, instantly feeling bad for getting annoyed at his friends for talking about his crush.
They end up getting the 3 people out of the truck and to the hospital okay and when they get back to the firehouse, Buck is already texting Tommy again while this time pouting at his phone instead of smiling like usual.*
“Why do you look like you just watched someone brutally murder a puppy?” Chimney asks Buck as he scoffs and looks at the message extremely pissed off as they all sit at the table for lunch. Buck shows Chimney the most recent thread between him and Tommy and Chimney suddenly feels just as angered as Buck.
*“This asshole seriously wanted to use Tommy and his skills without Tommy even knowing it?” He nods at the other man’s question while taking a bite of his food. While also eating her own lunch Hen peaks at the taller man’s phone to find out why both men are pissed off.
“This really makes me hate Quavo right now, why the hell would he want Tommy to waste precious time like that? Also, when he mentions 50 or Curtis, does he mean 50 Cent?’” Hen asks as she takes another bite of her food and still wondering why Eddie is being rude to everyone who mentions Tommy, especially Buck.
“Yeah, they’re pretty close friends from what he‘s told me.” Buck says while getting his phone back from Hen so he can go back to texting Tommy now that he’s eaten and isn’t busy.* He walks over to the couch in the lounge area and makes himself comfortable while laughing to himself at the fact that he and 50 Cent told Tommy the same things.
“Does the second change to Tommy’s name mean that you’re finally admitting that you have a crush on him?” Ravi says while sitting next to Buck on the couch, not even trying to hide how nosey he’s been all day.
“I wouldn’t have agreed to go on a date with him if I didn’t like him. That and for the first time in my entire career I’m actually glad that something had gone up in flames because it led to me meeting Tommy.” Ravi nods in agreement while watching how smitten Buck is just from how giddy he is from texting with his crush.
“Don’t forget how happy you get when he texts you back. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile as much and as early as you have over the last 3 weeks.” Eddie overhears this and sighs, knowing now how truly happy Tommy makes Buck so he decides to let the other man go, even if he doesn’t think he can stomach that.
