Work Text:
Mr. Leonhart was not one for surprises. He always thought that if something is going to make someone happy, they should be told right away instead of having a big reveal, just to get a reaction out of the person being told.
So when he was on a walk one evening and found an abandoned baby, it’s safe to say he wasn’t too happy.
Mr. Leonhart was considering knocking on the gate the baby was left outside to return it, but he figured that the baby was probably out there for a reason. Cursing silently, he picked up the petite child and brought her into his broad figure.
During the walk home, the bundled up girl began to stir and whine slightly at the movement. But as she grew more comfortable in her new father’s arms, she became dormant again.
“Well, dear, it appears we’re in the same boat,” he told her as he adjusted his hold on the sleeping baby.
Mr. Leonhart never imagined he would have children, let alone a daughter. He didn’t even have a name in mind, and he also didn’t dare to imagine the amount of questions she would have for him as she got older.
But as he set her down in his small home in the internment camp, he finally decided on a name.
As she stretched on the surface she was placed on, he couldn’t help but notice how gracious she looked whilst doing so.
“That’ll be your name, then,” Mr. Leonhart said softly.
“Annie.”
