Work Text:
The sound of heels were heard in the MBCC’s hospital branch halls accompanying it with a dog’s bark every time a nurse or doctor passes by, Rahu wonders how’d she get herself into this?
Looking straight ahead she sees the green-haired Adjutant working as hard as always, Rahu doesn’t even recall ever seeing her take a break, “So, uh are you okay?” She said her thoughts out loud making the Adjutant stop writing on her clipboard before she speaks, “You and Ares need to get your monthly Manic Depressants shots as you forgot to take them again, while Ares didn’t have someone to take him in here to get shots as well.” Nightingale avoids Rahu’s question.
Upon hearing the word ‘Shots’, Ares was frozen on his tracks with Rahu quickly noticing looking down at the corgi, “What’s wrong buddy?” Rahu asks Ares as the dog quickly started to cower and whine— whilst trying to hide behind Rahu’s legs covering himself to hide from the Adjutant.
Nightingale quickly took notice of this and sighed putting her clipboard nudged between her rib and just below her armpit as she kneeled down trying to call Ares in a pitch that Rahu has never heard the Adjutant made before. “Ares! C’mere!” Nightingale made a voice that sounded like as if she was talking to a small child which peaked Ares’ curiosity peeking at Nightingale behind Rahu’s legs.
Rahu presses her lips together trying not to make a sound of her bursting out of laughter she was glad she brought her mask to wear today. Ares’ tail started to wag as he lets out a bark towards Nightingale, she gives Ares a smile as she took out something out of her trench coat.
“Look Ares, i’ll give you a treat and i will even walk you around the built in garden if you decide to be a good boy and get your mania shots.” Nightingale shows the treat to Ares as a proof of her words aren’t lies.
Ares seems to be interested and quickly walked up to Nightingale licking her hand, “Okay, Okay. I’ll give it to you after okay? Come here.” Nightingale smiles and carried Ares by her arms as she looked at Rahu confused.
“Don’t tell me you want a treat too, Rahu?” Nightingale asked as she still feels Ares’ licks on her cheeks. Rahu rolls her eyes as they both kept going for the room to get shots.
Arriving at the room the doctor first looked at Ares as the corgi started to nervously look around the room out of fear while Nightingale sat next to Rahu crossing her arms and legs.
Ares started to whimper looking at Nightingale as the adjutant can only give a warm smile to comfort the corgi, “It’s okay Ares, i’m here.” She smiles as Rahu shakes her leg on the tiled floor nervously.
Ares slowly started to feel calm as Nightingale took a notice of Rahu’s nervous body language as she looked at her before asking, “Are you okay Rahu? If there’s a problem do tell me. It’s my job as an Adjutant to keep every sinner’s needs met and to feel comfortable.”
Rahu sighs as all she can remember where those nights, training she was often shot by the nurses to keep up with the adrenaline of each training— but in the end, it only made her afraid of needles even till this day. It was painful, and overwhelming as she still remembers those feelings till this day as she grips onto her arm where they usually shot her as she often struggles and started to bite the doctors to the point where they put a mask over her mouth.
In the end, the reason why she wore that mask here in the first place— it bought her comfort. Rahu only sighed before feeling Nightingale’s hand rubbing onto her arm on where she gripped aggressively a few minutes ago. “Does it still hurt when i do this?” Nightingale asks as Rahu’s eyes widened.
Rahu never realized how much that simple movement helped her, all she wanted when she was a child— comfort for all the pain she endured during those times but never seem to got. She felt her heartbeat calm but slowly raise up but not due to the fear, but the feeling of nervousness when the adjutant kept rubbing her arm.
Rahu finally speaks as she quickly snatches her arm away from Nightingale blushing slightly as her eyes bounced around the tile, “Y-Yeah it feels better…”
“I’m glad i brought some sort of comfort for you even if it’s for a bit Rahu. We can all be scared sometimes…” Nightingale says as she grips onto her gloved hand as Rahu looked at her but was already called to get her shots.
Nightingale looked at Ares who didn’t seem as nervous but was happy as his tail wagged immediately approaching Nightingale. The adjutant smiles and carried the corgi onto her lap as Rahu nervously went up to the other chair for the doctors worriedly looking around as they unbutton her coat, but her eyes landed at Nightingale feeling that sense of comfort towards her she smiles underneath the mask before the doctor spoke—
“You’re all done! See you next time Rahu!” The doctor said as Rahu was baffled then looked at Nightingale as she smiles at her mouthing a ‘Good Job’ feeding Ares a treat during it.
Rahu rubs the arm where they gave her a shot as she followed Nightingale and Ares out the room feeling shocked still and was wondering what had happened. Nightingale notices Rahu walking way back as she called for her, “Rahu?”
Rahu quickly perked up like a dog then jogged over to the two. Rahu didn’t understood what happened or why she reacted the way she did, but every time she was near that very same Adjutant she can’t help but feel comfort, calm, and even feeling like she can let her guard down— she never thought that her worries would get dissipated when she’s around…All of a sudden, every month felt like a less of a pain or terrifying experience for Rahu, getting shots suddenly felt like a breeze— All because of her.
